This paper investigates the influence of intellectual capital on organizational performance in the public sector and studies the interconnections between intellectual capital variables within the latter setting. It follows a quantitative research approach where data was collected from 371 employees in a public entity within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. The findings highlight the importance of human, social and organizational capital in enhancing performance in the studied organization. Furthermore, the results show that the examined forms of capital can be interconnected. These outcomes support the earlier findings on the positive impact of intellectual capital variables on performance and, provide valuable and rather rare insights on the latter interrelationships within the GCC public sector.
This paper aims to discuss how developing human capital can have a direct positive effect on operational performance. The case study method is used to address the sustainability issues a Lebanon-based retail e-commerce company is facing. We utilize the socio-economic qualimetrics methodology to discuss the corporate change from within the enterprise at all levels and with the contribution of all the participants in the firm. The focus of the case study is on qualitative, quantitative, and financial aspects through competitiveness enhancement and operational effectiveness metrics. The findings of this intervention research contribute to the literature insofar as enhancing the social capital of a retail e-commerce organization positively impacts its performance.
Research in the field of strategic human resource management has attracted a great deal of interest because of its likely impact on bottom line outcomes. Recent work in this area posits that organizational commitment can mediate the relationship between human resource management (HRM)practices and organizational performance. However, most of the studies conducted in this area were concentrated on samples gathered from private organizations, and mainly in western countries. In this paper, the impact of HRM on organizational performance is assessed. Furthermore, this research attempts to shed more light on the ‘black box’ between human resource practices and organizational performance by investigating the mediating function of organizational commitment in two public sector entities within the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The mediating factor was tested through regression of the data collected from a sample of 371 workers who are employed within the two aforementioned public sector entities. The main findings are in line with the outcomes of earlier HRM-performance studies conducted in western public and private sectors, where employers can expect improved organizational performance when their employees' perceptions of the HRM practices within the organization tend to foster an increase in their organizational commitment.
