Background-Induction of Labour (artificially initiated labour) is a common obstetric practice in pregnant women throughout the world, accounting for 20% of all births. Induction of Labour should be performed only when there is a clear medical indication for it and the expected benefits overweigh its potential harms. Objectives- to compare between the two formulations of dinoprostone and study the better option among the two, in cervical ripening and labour induction in women with unfavourable cervix. Methods- It was a Prospective randomized comparative study done in total 100 consecutive term pregnant women who underwent labor induction for fetal or maternal indications were divided randomly into two groups. Group A - sustained release vaginal insert and Group B - Intracervical gel. Informed consent was taken from each patient. SPSS (Version 22.0) was used for analysis. Results- Statistically significant increase in final Bishop’s score (p=0.01) and hyperstimulation (p=0.04) was seen in Vaginal insert group as compared to Intracervical gel group, while there were no statistically significant differences in maternal outcomes, neonatal outcomes and need for oxytocin augmentation in both groups.
Background: Thyroid dysfunction is 10 times more common in women than in men. Hypothyroidism among women of reproductive age group is linked to menstrual irregularities, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), miscarriage and infertility. Objectives: This study is undertaken to correlate hypothyroidism and reproductive health problems like menstrual irregularities, infertility, PCOS, recurrent pregnancy loss. Materials & Methods: Study Population: All women of age between 18-45 years with reproductive health problems like menstrual irregularities, infertility, PCOS, early pregnancy loss, recurrent pregnancy loss attending Gynaecology OPD in Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Medical College Hospital between March 2022-August 2022. Sample Size: 100 patients. Results: Majority (30%) in the study were belonging to the 18-24. Age group with mean age being 30.31 and median age 29 years. The study shows that majority of participants having normal BMI fall between 18-24 years of age group. Hypothyroidism with infertility was associated in 14% cases, but Test Statistic and P- Value which is found to be 1.315 and 0.711 respectively, are not statistically significant. b
Introduction: Adenomyosis is defined by the abnormal location of endometrial tissue within the myometrium associated with hypertrophy or hyperplasia of the myometrial stroma. It is a chronic estrogen dependent condition. Although pathogenesis and etiology of adenomyosis remain unknown, two main theories have been proposed: invagination of the endometrial basal layer and metaplasia of embryonic stem cells. Prevalence of adenomyosis varies widely from 5 to 70% with recent studies showing about 20% prevalence among which the majority were premenopausal. Materials and Methods: A Comparative Study was conducted from March 2022-August 2022. Women attending Gynec OPD with Abnormal Uterine bleeding due to Adenomyosis confirmed by sonography at Vinayaka Mission’s Kiruparananda Variyar Medical College and Hospital, Salem. Patients coming to Gynecology OPD with complaints of heavy menstrual bleeding, confirmed diagnosis of adenomyosis by ultrasonography, fulfilling the criteria and ready to followup to be enrolled in the study. A detailed history to be obtained with regard to age, parity, age of menarche, time since bleeding starts, duration and frequency of menstrual cycle.
Background-Obesity among fertile women is reaching epidemic proportions. Mothers who are overweight or obese during pregnancy and childbirth are known to be at risk of significant antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum and neonatal complications. Objectives- To evaluate the effect of obesity on the maternal and perinatal outcomes in pregnancies complicated by obesity. Material and methods:It was a Prospective case control study conducted among pregnant women with BMI>30 (kg/m²) attending obstetrics OPD of Vinayaka Mission’s KirupanandaVariyar Medical College & Hospital, Salem between MARCH 2022 to AUGUST 2022. 50 pregnant women were selected through purposive sampling technique who were attending OPD with obesity during the study period and 50 controls who are also pregnant but not obese attending the same OPD. IBM SPSS version 22 was used for statistical analysis. Results: The mean of Age was 23± 3.43 among controls and it was 25± 4.14 among cases the majority of the participants belonged to 20-24 years. A maximum number of cases 42 (93.51%) and controls 40 (82.19%) belong to class III socioeconomic status and the difference between 2 groups was statistically significant (P-value 0.03). 48.05% were Multiparity among cases and 40 (51.95%) participants were primiparity.
