A new binuclear copper(II) complex, bridged by the ligand phthalicacid[bis(benzyloxy)ethyl]ester, where each copper(II) is coordinated to one carboxylate (from ligand) and one acetate in square planar mode is reported. The ligand synthesized by the reaction of phthalic anhydride and ethylene glycol, has been characterized by FT-IR, 1 HNMR and LCMS. The binuclear Copper(II) complex has been characterized by UV/visible spectra, FTIR spectra, EPR spectra, ESI-MS spectra, magnetic moment measurement and thermogravimetric analysis. DFT calculation has shown a Z type structure for the complex. Excellent superoxide dismutase activity with IC 50 value 8.6×10 −6 M for the complex has been observed.
Coordination polymer of Cu(II) bridged by o-phthalic acid alone is not known. The reaction of CuCl 2 .2H 2 O with (2-butoxycarbonyl)benzoic acid yielded three dimensional coordination polymer bridged by o-phthalic acid. X-ray crystal structure shows structure with monoclinic P 2 1 /c space group. o-Phthalic acid molecules act as bridge between two Cu(II), one carboxylate binds to one Cu(II) as bidentate while the other carboxylate binds to another Cu(II) as monodentate. The four planar coordination positions of Cu(II) are satisfied by two chelated carboxylates while fifth and sixth coordination positions are satisfied by monodentate carboxylates. EPR and TGA of the coordination polymer are also reported.
A new binuclear complex of copper2+, [LCu2+(CH3COO)2Cu2+L](CH3COO)2 where L is N,N-bis(phthalimide)ethylenediamine, was synthesised and characterised. The complex ion [LCu2+ (CH3COO)2Cu2+L]2+ was encapsulated into ZSM-5 zeolite and used to modify the surface of the glassy carbon electrode. This modified electrode, in a phosphate buffer solution at pH 7.0, exhibited an oxidation potential for dopamine (DA) and ascorbic acid (AA) at electrode potentials of 0.230 V and −0.090 V vs. Ag/AgCl respectively, a separation of 0.320 V. The electro-oxidation of DA or AA on the modified electrode is independent of each other. No interference was observed from Na+, K+, Cl−, SO42−, Mg2+, Ca2+, Zn2+, Fe2+, and glucose. The detection limits obtained were 2.91 × 10−7 M for DA and 3.5 × 10−7 M for AA.
A new bimetallic copper(II) complex has been synthesized with ligand obtained by the condensation of salicylaldehyde and the amine derived from reduction of nitration product of benzil. The ligand was characterized by1H NMR and mass spectra, and the binuclear Copper(II) complex was characterized by vibrational and electronic spectra, EPR spectra, and magnetic moment measurement. Thermogravimetric analysis study and electrochemical study of the complex were also done. The complex was found to show superoxide dismutase activity.
