A t e m p e r a t u r e s e n s i t i v e p r o t e i n (one of s e v e r a l ) t h a t w a s s o l u b l e a t 2OC b u t r e v e r s i b l y p r e c i p i t a t e d upon warming t o room t e m p e r a t u r e was i s o l a t e d from dog milk by p r e c i p i t a t i o n with 50% s a t u r a t e d ammonium s u l f a t e , i o n exchange chromatography, c e n t r i f u g a t i o n a t 3OoC and p r e p a r a t i v e i s o e l e c t r i c f o c u s i n g i n polyacrylamide g e l . s e d i m e n t a t i o n e q u i l i b r i u m was 13,400; however, by t h i n l a y e r g e l f i l t r a t i o n i t appeared t o be much l a r g e r . U l t r a c e n t r i f ug a t i o n s t u d i e s a t c o n d i t i o n s n e a r t h o s e a t which t h e p r o t e i n p r e c i p i t a t e d r e v e a l e d no evidence o f a g g r e g a t i o n . The prot e i n had a f a i r l y h i g h c o n t e n t of nonpolar amino a c i d s w i t h p r o l i n e b e i n g i n t h e h i g h e s t amount. The e f f e c t s of pH, i o n i c s t r e n g t h , h e a t and e t h a n o l on t h e s o l u b i l i t y of t h e p r o t e i n were s t u d i e d .
