Chemero's concept of sensorimotor empathy offers a relevant introduction to the study of human/non-human relationships. This article proposes an empirical characterization of this phenomenon occurring in human–horse interactions through the notion of 'contact', which is a core
concept in the technical tradition of the equestrian world. According to the assumptions of 4E cognition, we approach the notion of contact with a broader meaning than how it is usually defined, i.e.as the connection of the rider's hand with the horse's mouth. We state that contact involves
the whole body and that it is not a passive touch but a dynamic one. Contact is intersubjective, meaning that its quality depends on the two agents of the interaction: the human and the horse. Within such an interaction, sensorimotor empathy allows the human and the horse to understand through
the body and to fine-tune with each other to bring about 'good contact'.
Cette étude visait à analyser l'activité collective d'élèves engagés dans la préparation d'un triathlon athlétique par équipe durant un cycle d'éducation physique. Il s'agissait plus précisément de comprendre la façon dont les interactions entre les élèves intervenaient dans l'activité individuelle de chacun. Elle a été conduite en référence au cadre théorique et méthodologique du « cours d'action ». Le recueil des données a été effectué en enregistrant en vidéo les actions et verbalisations des élèves et des enseignants dans les situations de classe et en menant à l'issue de chaque leçon des entretiens d'autoconfrontation avec les élèves participant à l'étude. L'analyse révèle, d'une part, que les configurations d'activité collective générées par le dispositif de travail par équipe offrent aux élèves un ensemble de ressources distribuées pour apprendre, et d'autre part, que l'activité collective des élèves produit des formes originales de coopération et de tutelle non prescrites par l'enseignant. Ces résultats ouvrent des pistes de conception de situations d'apprentissage coopératif en éducation physique.
Formula Kite is a high-speed sailing sport using hydrofoils, recently included in the Olympic sports list. In Formula Kite, the riders’ technical abilities to reach and maintain high speed are key to achieving performance. The aim of the present study was to analyze Formula Kite riders’ performance during speed tests in practice sessions by combining qualitative descriptions of their lived perceptual experiences “from the inside” with measured correlates of performance. The courses of experience of four expert Formula Kite riders’ speed tests were analyzed, compared, and discussed in relation to their measured Velocity Made Good. Results of the qualitative analyses provide original insight into the fine technical adaptations of the riders in their pursuit of performance. Furthermore, the comparison between the evaluated performance using speed measurements and the perceived performance assessed by the qualitative analysis shows interindividual differences as well as inconsistencies between the two modes of analysis. Based on these results, the present study opens practical perspectives for improving training practices, consisting in “calibrating” the sailors’ perceived performance with measured performance.
