Latours teorier som metaperspektiv på debatten om evidensbasering i helsefag Berit Andersen Sandvik, RN, ICN, MSc, førstelektor Latour's theories as a meta-perspective view of the discussion about evidence-based practise in Norwegian health care ABSTRACT Aim. The purpose of this article is to describe central elements of the discussion about evidence-based practise in health care and how to understand the debate with the help of a meta-perspective based upon the theories of Latour. Background. Is evidence-based practice the best form of practise in health care? This question has been discussed through several years in the different diciplines of health care. Methods. This article is based upon contributions in Norwegian professional journals and books on the topic, mainly in nursing, but also in physiotherapy and psychology. The debate is analyzed on the basis of Latour's theory on scientific communication. Findings. Special strategies for scientific communication described by Latour, are found in the actual debate. The pro-evidence side is trying to create an atmosphere of agreement and tries to reduce the polarity between the positions, the strategy called «I want what you want». The critics are more confronting and seem to have the strategy of «I want this, why don't you?» Conclusion. The analysis of the strategies in play in the debate, can promote an understanding of the underlying division between the perspective of biomedicine and the more holistic approach in health care as a basis for further development and discussions in health care.
