In recent years, the concept of digital transformation has emerged as an area where businesses have been working intensively. Digital transformation refers to the holistic transformation of businesses in human and business processes and technology elements in order to provide more effective and efficient services. Therefore, blockchain, which is called a disruptive technology, has great importance in ensuring the digital transformation of businesses. In this study, some determinations have been made about the adoption of blockchain technology and situation analysis while performing digital transformation in businesses. In this context, semi-structured interviews were held with experts in the blockchain field.
This study examines the long-term energy capacity investment problem of a power generation company (GenCo), considering the drought threat posed by climate change in hydropower resources in Turkey. The mid-term planning decisions such as maintenance and refurbishment scheduling of power plants are also considered in the studied investment planning problem. In the modeled electricity market, it is assumed that GenCos conduct business in uncertain market conditions with both bilateral contracts (BIC) and day-ahead market (DAM) transactions. The problem is modeled as a fuzzy mixed-integer linear programming model with a fuzzy objective and fuzzy constraints to handle the imprecisions regarding both the electricity market (e.g., prices) and environmental factors (e.g., hydroelectric output due to drought). Bellman and Zadeh’s max-min criteria are used to transform the fuzzy capacity investment model into a model with a crisp objective and constraints. The applicability of methodology is illustrated by a case study on the Turkish electric market in which GenCo tries to find the optimal power generation investment portfolio that contains five various generation technologies alternatives, namely, hydropower, wind, conventional and advanced combined-cycle natural gas, and steam (lignite) turbines. The results show that wind turbines with low marginal costs and steam turbines with high energy conversion efficiency are preferable, compared with hydroelectric power plant investments when the fuzziness in hydroelectric output exists (i.e., the expectation of increasing drought conditions as a result of climate change). Furthermore, the results indicate that the gas turbine investments were found to be the least preferable due to high gas prices in all scenarios.
The arrival of mobile phone also known as Global System for Mobile Communications (original acronym: Groupe Spécial Mobile -GSM) operators and their rapid growth may well be seen as one of the most significant developments in the field of communication and information technology over the last two decades. The aim of this study is to investigate the international transfer process of general packet radio service (GPRS) technologies, which supports the wireless access to external Internet protocol-based networks, and to propose a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) approach to evaluate the alternative transferor companies. In order to achieve these purposes, firstly an in-depth interview was conducted with a purchasing manager of the third largest GSM operator in Turkey. Then, the major factors, which directly affect the success of a technology transfer (TT) project, are identified from the literature in order to determine the transferor selection criteria for a transferee company. The next step was to find out the relative importance of these criteria by asking the purchasing manager who was also a member of the GPRS project team. Finally, Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), which is a MCDM method, is applied to rank the alternative transferor companies.
