This study aims to determine which format the university students and preservice teachers receiving the pedagogical formation training prefer in readings for academic purposes. The study group of the research using the general survey approach were 189 pedagogical formation students (110 [58.2%] male, 79 [41.8%] female) who were continuing their university education or graduated from university. The scale named "Your Preference of Format When Reading: Printed? Electronic?" was used as the data collection instrument. Descriptive analyses were performed and frequency distributions were calculated through the data obtained. The findings were presented under the titles of Preference and Behavior of Reading, Note Taking and Highlighting Important Points in the Preferred Format, Learning, Reminding, Concentration, and Preferred Device and Language of Material. The research results indicate that the preservice teacher find it hard to read in electronic environment, prefer rather printed texts for note taking and learning, prefer reading the course materials by taking printouts as the amount of text increases and therefore getting more concentrated, and the most used devices for reading electronic texts are smartphones and computer.
Objective: Blood culture are of vital importance in patient follow-up, as they enable the identification and production of sepsis causative microorganisms, initiate antibiotic treatment in a timely manner and reduce mortality and morbidity. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the microorganisms grown in the automated blood culture in the microbiology laboratory of the hospital in terms of quality indicators. Methods: In this study, microorganisms grown from automated blood culture BACTEC-9120 (Becton Dickinson, USA) system from the blood culture samples sent to Duzce University Medical Microbiology Laboratory were evaluated retrospectively. For this purpose, the rejection and contamination rate of the samples for which blood culture was requested, the result of Gram staining-final identification compliance, the number of samples sent from a single bottle, and the growth times of microorganisms after incubation were determined. Results: 5037 blood culture samples were sent to the laboratory from various clinics. 1.7% of these samples were rejected as inappropriate samples. Gram stain-final identification compatibility of blood cultures was investigated and it was determined as 97.8%. The single bottle number of the samples sent was found to be 511. For the 5037 samples included in the study, growth was detected in 20.7%, of which 10.2% were considered as contaminants. In our study, the average breeding time of the factors examined for breeding time was determined to be 30.29 hours. Conclusions: As conclusion, there is no gold standard to distinguish true pathogens from contaminant agents in blood cultures.
Aim: Coronavirus disease-2019 caused an epidemic that started in China about two years ago but affected the whole world. It was aimed to evaluate patients followed up with coronavirus disease-2019 infection, to determine risk factors and indicators for severe infection. Material and Methods: Patients who received treatment as inpatient with coronavirus disease-2019 infection between March 15- June 01 2020 were investigated. Patients were divided into two groups according to their oxygen saturation; patients with oxygen saturation over 90% were group 1, patients with 90% or less were determined as group 2. This two groups were compared in terms of aggravating risk factors. Results: In this study, 90 patients (46 female, 44 male) were included. Moderate-severe pneumonic involvement in computed tomography of thorax (p=0.002) and high fever (p
