This paper describes two camera systems based on the advanced 160 x 128 uncooled micro-bolometer FPAs. The UL3 ALPHA camera is in production and takes advantage of the patented bias equalization FPA performance to produce the world's smallest JR production camera. UL3 ALPHA weighs less than 195 grams, uses 1.5W of power [nominal] and has a overall dimensions of 4.3cm x 4.3cm x 7.5cm. UL3 ALPHA production cameras have demonstrated 62mK NEdT operation with over 99% operability. The UL3 OMEGA camera is in the design phase and is the next generation small format camera. UL3 OMEGA uses the ISC98J I ROIC currently being fabricated to allow non-temperature stabilized operation over a wide ambient temperature range [-40C to +55C]. By eliminating the requirement to temperature stabilize the uncooled focal plane array {UFPA], the UL3 OMEGA camera will greatly reduce the already low weight, size, and power achieved in UL3 ALPHA. The UL3 OMEGA camera will weigh less than 95 grams. use less than 600mW of power. and have overall dimensions of 3.5cm x 3.5cm x 3.6cm.Both camera architectures feature an approach that integrates the required system functions on application specific integrated circuits [ASICs] and field programmable gate arrays [FPGAs] rather than including discrete components and microprocessors.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
