Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a demyelinating disease caused by the JC virus, a polyomavirus that can be reactivated under certain immunosuppressive conditions, such as AIDS, immunomodulatory therapy, and haematological malignancies. However, a few cases of immunocompetent patients have been reported in which no immunodeficiency was present. We describe the case of an 83-year-old immunocompetent man who presented with severe cerebellar symptoms with an MRI scan suggestive of severe demyelinating disease. We were not able to identify any occult immunosuppression or malignancy in our patient.
Cardiac myxomas are uncommon, benign tumors, predominantly located in the left atrium and mainly affecting middle-aged and elderly male patients. Congestive heart failure, stroke, and systemic symptoms, although misleading and nonspecific, are the most frequent forms of clinical presentation.
Background: Research in hospital settings faces several difficulties. Information technologies and certain Web 2.0 tools may provide new models to tackle these problems, allowing for a collaborative approach and bridging the gap between clinical practice, teaching and research. Objectives: We aim to gather a community of researchers involved in the development of a network of learning and investigation resources in a hospital setting. Methods: A multi-disciplinary work group analysed the needs of the research community. We studied the opportunities provided by Web 2.0 tools and finally we defined the spaces that would be developed, describing their elements, members and different access levels. Model description: WIKINVESTIGACION is a collaborative web space with the aim of integrating the management of all the hospital's teaching and research resources. It is composed of five spaces, with different access privileges. The spaces are: Research Group Space 'wiki for each individual research group', Learning Resources Centre devoted to the Library, News Space, Forum and Repositories. Conclusions: The Internet, and most notably the Web 2.0 movement, is introducing some overwhelming changes in our society. Research and teaching in the hospital setting will join this current and take advantage of these tools to socialise and improve knowledge management.
Abstract-The computational applications support different processes in organizations, one of these processes are those related to human resources, where one of the activities is the hiring of new personnel; the evaluation of human talent to be integrated into a company can be measured through different tests, one of which is the Terman-Merril intelligence test, which measures the intellectual quotient of candidates with a series of sub-tests. In this project, the waterfall method has been used for the development of a web computational application for the Terman-Merril intelligence test, as well as the management of the users and the results obtained to be visualized in spreadsheets for its subsequent analysis and graphing. The ASP.Net programming language and the SQL Server 2014 database have been used for the programming and the storage of information. As a result, it has been applied successfully in some companies, obtaining measurable and evaluable results on the candidates. The application has also been installed in a computer lab for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Human Resources at Faculty of Accounting and Administration at Coahuila, Mexico.
