2h-CARS (two wavelength Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering) was used for non-intrusive temperature measurements in a turbulent, bluff body stabilized flame. The time resolved temperature data is presented for several test conditions including stable conditions used for computer code validation, and unstable conditions when combustion induced pressure oscillations occurred. Various schlieren and photographic methods were also used for flame visualization at the conditions corresponding to the CARS test conditions. The 2h-CARS technique proved to be a robust, accurate technique with excellent time resolution. CARS thermometry and visualization techniques are powerful tools in the process of understanding turbulent combustion phenomena.
We report a microfluidic fluorescence activated cell-sorting (μFACS) device that employs traveling surface acoustic waves (TSAW) to sort cells at rates comparable to conventional jet-in-air FACS machines, with high purity and viability.
