This article focuses on the emotions service designers experience in their role as facilitators. We will explore emotions in the context of a co-creative environment, and discuss how encounters between participants and facilitators generate different perspectives despite a common environment. Facilitators' perceptions of participant emotions are lacking in accuracy due to the influence of their own emotional experiences during a workshop. This article suggests that knowledge and understanding of the emotional aspect of co-creation workshops could provide facilitators with additional support when conducting workshops, and lead to better outcomes and more meaningful experiences for all involved.
The research investigates the role of service design and improvisation as decolonising practice. It is based on case study research with a focus group consisting of Namibian artists, designers, artisans and arts organisations who participated in artistic and cultural exchange activities of the Art South-South Trust (ASST), a start-up Namibian not for profit (NFP) organisation. The goal of ASST was to increase visibility of the focus group members, enable global exposure and create an arena for multi-vocality. The paper creates a practical framework for decolonising practices in Namibian arts and design by drawing on reflective practice to analyse the activities of ASST alongside interview data collected from Namibian and Australian partner organisations and participants in the program. Critical thinking is used to evaluate the impact of realised activities and processes both in situ in Namibia and in exchange in Australia. La question identitaire est au coeur des préoccupations de nombreuses communautés autochtones qui voient divers processus d’assimilation menacer leur riche héritage culturel. Des membres de la nation atikamekw et une équipe de designers allochtones de l’Université de Montréal travaillent ensemble à imaginer de nouveaux moyens de transmission et de valorisation culturelle. Cet article présente des enjeux, défis et possibilités révélés par l’initiative de recherche-action Tapiskwan. En réponse à la transformation du territoire qui limite l’accès aux matières premières nécessaires à la confection des produits de l’artisanat, des matières textiles mettant en valeur le patrimoine graphique atikamekw ont été réalisées. En lien avec les modes de vie autochtones qui sont modulés en fonction des saisons et activités liées à la subsistance pour chaque période de l’année, une approche plus saisonnière des activités de production est proposée, à raison de plusieurs périodes intensives par année.
