X-ray microdensitometry and ultrasonic velocity were used to study radial variation of selected physical properties in wood of Pinus taeda. The analysed physical properties were earlywood and latewood density and stiffnesses in longitudinal and tangential anisotropic directions, calculated as the square of velocity multiplied by density. X-ray microdensitometry was used to measure earlywood and latewood density. Ultrasonic direct transmission velocity was used to measure velocity in longitudinal and tangential directions, in earlywood and latewood, in each ring.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
