The king-post trusses on both sides of the deck are braced against wind forces and buckling h' transversal bracings above the roadway. The cross bracings form transverse trusses, in which the slender steel bars act as diagonals and the wooden members. rigidly fixed at their ends. as verticals.
ConstructionAll the three king-post trusses were assembled in their final positions with the aid of temporary supports. Prefabricated wood and steel members were used in construction as much as possible. The longest members for the assembly were the 42-m-long beams. to whose ends the steel shoes of the joints had been installed in the factory (Fig. 4). The erection of the king-post of the first span was quite time consuming. but because the three main spans were all similar the construction time was reduced significantly when the second and third spans were installed.
