Resumo: Este estudo teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão de literatura sobre o coaching a partir da ótica da Psicologia, ao contemplar suas principais definições, tipos e abordagens, e analisar o status prático e acadêmico do tema a nível internacional e nacional. Constatou-se a diversidade conceitual dos pressupostos teóricos do coaching, acompanhada de variadas aplicabilidades e uma prática profissional em ascensão, paradoxalmente ao desenvolvimento juvenil da literatura acadêmica sobre o tema, principalmente a nível nacional. O presente estudo contribui para nivelar os conhecimentos dos interessados pelo tema, uma vez que proporciona a compreensão de aspectos básicos do coaching, assim como permite que se enxergue além ao evidenciar as lacunas existentes e propor uma agenda para a pesquisa brasileira. Adicionalmente, diante dos aspectos cognitivos, comportamentais, afetivos e atitudinais do coaching, propõe-se que a Psicologia reforce seu domínio sobre a área, fornecendo subsídios teórico-práticos válidos e confiáveis. Diante da grande disseminação e comercialização do coaching, este artigo ajuda, principalmente, a "desvendar" o aparente quebra-cabeças do coaching, seus elementos, bases teóricas, aplicabilidade e pesquisas. Unfolding Coaching: a Literature Review from the Perspective of PsychologyAbstract: The main goal of this study was to carry out a literature review about coaching from the standpoint of Psychology, addressing its main definitions, types and approaches, as well as analyzing its academic and practical status in both Brazilian and international scope. Conceptual diversity regarding coaching theoretical assumptions was identified, followed by miscellaneous applications and ascending professional practice, oppositely to the juvenile development of its academic literature, especially regarding the Brazilian scope. The present study adds to knowledge leveling for those interested in coaching, as it provides comprehension of coaching basic aspects, going even further when it evidences the existing gaps and proposes a research agenda for Brazilian researchers. Additionally, concerning cognitive, behavioral, affective and attitudinal aspects of coaching, we propose that Psychology as a science can reinforce its domain over the field, providing valid and reliable theoretical-practical basis. Facing the great dissemination and commercialization of coaching in human resources management, this paper contributes to "unfolding" the puzzle of coaching, its elements, theoretical basis, applicability and research.
