In this study, I analyze Maleficent (2014), the first Disney film to place a previously antagonist character into a protagonist in a new film. In this thesis, I found changes in the personality of Maleficent from good to evil and back to good that caused her to experience anxieties. Therefore, I use Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory of three fundamental elements of the human psyche (id, ego, and superego), anxiety and defense mechanisms. Based on my analysis, I found that Maleficent becomes evil when her id, ego, and superego are unbalanced, and Maleficent can return to being good when her id, ego, and superego are well-balanced. Moreover, Maleficent experiences reality anxiety, neurotic anxiety, and moral anxiety during the process of her personality changes, and she uses defense mechanisms such as aggression, intellectualization, and apathy to overcome her anxieties.
This research paper focuses on the impoliteness strategies employed by the employees of Karen's Diner in serving their customers. Through this research, I would like to know how Karen's Diner’s employees apply impoliteness as a strategy in communicating with their customers and why they use the impoliteness strategies. To support this research, I use the theory of impoliteness by Jonathan Culpeper (1996, 2005, 2011). In this study, I discovered that Karen's Diner employees apply impoliteness as several strategies, including by rejecting customers, by ordering customers, by warning customers, and by insulting customers. In addition, I also discovered that the employees of Karen's diner use the four impoliteness strategies to entertain their customers that can be seen from the positive reactions given by customers to the impoliteness treatments from the employees such as saying that they enjoy being at Karen's Diner, they recommend other people to visit Karen's Diner, and they will return to Karen's DIner.
IIR and FIR filters are the most used digital signal filters. The application of each filter type depends on the needs of the user. IIR filters are generally used for applications with limited memory. In comparison, FIR filters are usually used for applications where the linear phase is essential. In this study, the implementation of FIR filters on pink noise audio samples was observed. Various FIR window method filters such as rectangular, hamming, hanning, and Blackman will be compared. Each type of filter will have a different filter order due to computing the frequency cut-off point for each filter. The comparisons were made by observing the gain response, the time domain signal, the frequency response, and the phase response. The results indicated that the Hanning window method is a better filter because it produces low delay and good attenuation. Things to be considered in designing FIR filters are fluctuations in frequency response and phase shift. Alterations on cut-off points on the filters and delay usage can be deployed for some improvement
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
