Background: Most of fascial space infections of head and neck caused by odontogenic infections. The canine space becomes involved primarily as the result of infections from the maxillary canine tooth. The buccal space may become infected from extensions of infection from either the maxillary or mandibular teeth.Purpose: This case report discusses the management of canine fossa space abscess extending to buccal space.Case: A-45-years-old male patient came to the A.W. Sjahranie Hospital with complaints of swelling in his left face since two weeks ago. Physical examination showed swelling in the upper left jaw. CT scan’s view showed a radiolucent appearance of the canine fossa region. Panoramic radiograph pointed upper left canine (23) and first molar (26) as source of infection. Based on clinical and radiographic examinations, the patient was diagnosed with a canine fossa space abscess. Case Management: The treatment was given are intravenous antibiotics, multiple tooth extraction followed by intraoral drainage incision under general anesthesia. Conclusion: Extension of infection of the canine fossa space can lead to the buccal space and maxillary sinus at the same time due to multiple carious tooth. Background: The Covid-19 is a viral infection caused by the novel coronavirus and interpersonal transmission occurs mainly via respiratory droplets and contact transmission. In some countries, the recommendations of the dental associations are to interrupt elective dental treatments, so only emergency or urgent cases are allowed. However, many patients are not aware of whether or not to attend their appointments at the dental clinic. Most of the patients are anxious but some patients feel calm to seek dental treatment. Purpose: This research is to find out the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on anxiety levels and patient’s visit in Dental and Oral Clinic, A.W. Sjahranie General Hospital Samarinda. Materials and Method: This research was designed by the descriptive observational approach using a cross-sectional research design. The samples were new patients of child and adult who visited Dental and Oral Clinic, A.W. Sjahranie General Hospital Samarinda. The research was conducted through questionnaires to measure anxiety levels about Covid-19 pandemic conditions and the average anxiety level of patients associated with "stay at home" recommendation and their impact on dental care success. Result: The questionnaires were answered by 55 patients (23 male/42% and 32 female/58%) who visited the Dental and Oral Clinic, A.W. Sjahranie General Hospital Samarinda. The average level of patient anxiety for Covid-19 pandemic conditions is 4.87 for male patients and 4.42 for female patients. The level of anxiety about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on dental care is about the same in both men and women. Conclusion: Male patients are more anxious than women about the Covid-19 pandemic. But both showed similar anxiety about how pandemic conditions could affect their dental care.
Kata Kunci: Avulsi gigi, ligamen periodontal, replantasi gigi, trauma dentoalveolar ABSTRACT Dental avulsion is a common type of injury that causes teeth to detach from the alveolar socket. This type of dentoalveolar trauma results in severed periodontal ligaments with or without alveolar bone fracture. Although the ideal treatment is dental replantation immediately at the site of the trauma, this may not be practicable in every case. The community still does not know the first aid efforts in the management of dental avulsion before replanting to maintain the viability of the tissue around the loose tooth. This community service activity is carried out to increase community knowledge about how to clean and store teeth properly with the aim of increasing the success of treatment in the Covid-19 pandemic. The implementation of this activity to the community includes making educational animated videos and uploading them to the online video platform "Youtube". The responses obtained from the community were carried out through a questionnaire. Filling out the questionnaire by the community (48 people) showed that 42% were very satisfied; 48% satisfied; 6% were quite satisfied; 0% dissatisfied, and 4% are very dissatisfied with the educational video shown on the YouTube platform. The high level of community satisfaction is expected to be balanced with an increase in public knowledge and awareness about the emergency management of dental avulsion during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is presented from an educational animated video. Background: Tumour is an uncontrolled swelling of tissue. Tumour caused by uncontrolled proliferation abnormal tissue and cell. Based on the nature of the tumour, there are two types of tumours, that is benign tumour and malignant tumour. The malignant tumour can cause death while benign tumour only aggravate the surrounding tissue. The high incidence of tumors in various countries, including Indonesia, rarely finds research on the prevalence of oral tumors, especially in East Kalimantan, especially the capital city of Samarinda. Objective: This research is to find out the incidence of oral cavity tumour at RSUD Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie periode 2016-2020 . Method: Used was a descriptive observational method retrieving secondary data in the form of medical records. The sampling method used in this research was the purposive sampling method. Results: the profile of patients with oral cavity tumour at Regional General Hospital Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie 2016-2020 are as follows the age group with the highest incidence is 46-55 years: 32 patients (24,8%), The highest incidence by gender were women: 78 patients (60.5%) and man: 51 patients (39,5%). Most of the tumour were found in the mandible: 65 patients (50,4%). Conclusion: The prevalence of oral cavity tumour is higher in female patients than male patients.
Ameloblastoma is one of the most common benign tumors of the oral cavity originating from odontogenic epithelium. This tumor is slow-growing but aggressive, locally invasive, has a high potential for recurrence, transforms into malignant and metastasizes. Risk factors such as tumor location, tumor size, patient age, radiographic appearance, a histopathology subtype, and selection of appropriate treatment correlate with recurrence in ameloblastoma. This study aimed to determine the distribution of ameloblastoma based on age, gender, location, and histopathology subtype. This research is quantitative research with a descriptive method using medical record data subjects and paraffin slides/blocks based on predetermined inclusion criteria. Data were grouped by age, gender, location and histopathology subtype. The results are presented in the form of tables and narratives. Based on the data obtained from 27 samples in this study, the age range category of 45-54 years was the age group with the most ameloblastoma found in 11 patients (40.74%). The number of males patients was 13 patients (48.15%) and 14 patients (51.95%) found on females. Most ameloblastomas were found in the mandible, with a total of 26 patients (96.30%). The most common histopathology subtypes were follicular and plexiform histopathology subtypes with 8 patients (29.63%) each.
