Lingula oeeurs in N ew Zealand in roeks of Middle-U pper Triassie age, Kaihikuan loeal stage. Lingula aoraki n. sp. is deseribed from Kaihikuan strata of Hokonui Hills, Southland. It also oeeurs in north Otago and Canterbury where it is found in transitional marine beds which include plant beds. Distribution and palaeoecology are discussed.
