Introduction: Peripheral intravenous therapy is one of the most frequently used therapeutic interventions in the acute care setting. Paediatric intravenous cannulation is a fundamental part of medication and practised in almost every health care setting. Intravenous therapy is used to treat a wide variety of paediatric conditions. Although most hospitalised children receive intravenous (i.v.) therapy daily, treatment extends beyond this population to Out Patient (OP) settings, long term care and home care for the infusion of fluids, blood products, and medications. Aim: To assess the effectiveness of planned teaching program on knowledge and practice regarding intravenous therapy among paediatric nurses. Materials and Methods: The present pre-experimental, quantitative, non randomised, one group pre and post test design study was conducted in Paediatric Ward, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of ‘G’ block, Sri Ramachandra Hospital (SRH), Porur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India from 11th July 2016 to 20th August 2016. Self administered questionnaire and observational checklist was used to collect data about knowledge and practice respectively. Non probability purposive sampling technique was used to select the 30 staff nurses working in the paediatric department with less than one year of experience. Results: The difference between the mean post-test knowledge score (M=16.20, SD=2.041) and pretest knowledge score (M=7.43, SD=2.254) of paediatric staff nurses was highly significant (p-value <0.001) and the computed t-value was t=26.7. The difference between the mean post-test practice score (M=15.13, SD=2.063) and pretest mean practice score (M=10.70, SD=2.380) was also highly significant (p-value <0.001) and the computed t-value was t=8.215. Conclusion: The present study shows that there was a significant difference in the mean scores of knowledge and practice between pretest and post-test after the planned teaching program intervention at the level of paediatric nurses (p<0.001). So planned teaching program was effective on knowledge and practice regarding intravenous therapy among paediatric staff nurses.
Multiple intelligence is the theory that 'people are smart in more ways than one has immense implication for educators'.Howard Gardner proposed a new view of intelligence that is rapidly being incorporated in school curricula. In his theory of Multiple Intelligences, Gardner expanded the concept of intelligence with such areas as music, spatial relations, and interpersonal knowledge in addition to mathematical and linguistic ability. This article discusses on the intelligences, the theories based on intelligences, origin of Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences and the incorporation of the theory of Multiple Intelligences into the classroom. To incorporate Multiple intelligence theory in the classroom, there is a need to specialize the process of lesson planning. This paper illustrates the need for special lesson planning, benefits of it to the teachers and learners, integrating various instructional strategies in lesson planning and its effect in the progress of the learners. This article also shows the importance of integrating MI activities in the lesson plans which aid students' learning, providing them with the optimum learning environment through their preferred learning medium and help them to achieve their fullest potential in their respective talented areas.

One of the major objective of this study is to investigate Leadership Qualities among B.Ed., Student Teachers based on Gender, Religion, Types of Family, Medium of Study and Educational Qualification of Parents. The Sample 300 B.Ed., Student teachers from 10 colleges in Coimbatore District.
BACKGROUND Proper hand hygiene is the single most important, simplest, and least expensive means of reducing the prevalence of health care association infection (HAIs) and nosocomial infection. Several studies have demonstrated that hand washing virtually eradicates the carriage of infections in intensive care units (ICUs). For more than 150 years, hand hygiene has been researched in the hospital environment as a way of preventing transmission of bacteria, infection and death. The purpose of this study was to import the significance of the hand hygiene and to improve the skills in performing hand hygiene among mothers of neonates admitted in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at tertiary care hospital. METHODS A self structured knowledge questionnaire (KQ), practice questionnaire (PQ) and practice checklist (PC) was administered. The one to one method video on hand hygiene was played by using a laptop for about 15 minutes as an intervention with demonstration done by investigator and return demonstration was done by mothers, post test was conducted on 3rd day and 5th day followed by the intervention. RESULTS The mean scores of knowledge showed improvement in post test than the pre test in both the groups, but there was an increase in practice mean score between the groups which showed an improvement in the study group, it was higher than the control group which was statistically significant at P < 0.001. Overall, there were minimal positive correlations between the level of knowledge and practice for the study group in post-test and post-test II. Minimum positive correlation was evident but there was no significance. CONCLUSIONS This study concludes that it enhanced the knowledge on hand hygiene among mothers of neonates and it helped mothers to understand the importance of hand hygiene, when to do, how to do, why to do. Thus, it expected directly or indirectly to reduce the infection rate among neonates admitted in NICU. Further, the nurses have a great responsibility in ensuring parents adherence to hand hygiene.
