absorption of the 8-quinolinolinium ion in the ultraviolet region.Interferences. For the type of sample discussed here, the interference caused by plutonium only needs be considered. However, sometimes the components of stainless steel may be present as contaminants. Potassium cyanide does not prevent the precipitation of the aluminum, and it eliminates the interference of 200 pg. of nickel, copper, and cobalt, respectively. The filtrate and washings containing potassium cyanide should be treated with hydrochloric acid in a well ventilated hood before disposal.
RESULTSRecovery data for this method were obtained by carrying aluminum through the suggested ion exchange-precipita-Lion procedure in the absence of plutonium. The amount of aluminum was varied from 100 to 400 pg. The absorbances were measured a t 360 to 390 mp, The relative standard deviation was less than 2% over the various measured wavelengths. In the analysis of six Pu-A1 samples, repeat analyses on the same samples had a range of slightly less than 2 pg, with a sample which contained approximately 200 Mg. of aluminum.
HC1: one is observed at Xmal 283 µ with a value of 17,000 and the other at 228 µ of reduced absorptivity. These results are similar to those reported previously (23). Using the value of eÍ83mM, the yield of HMF after 10 hours heating at 80.0°C in 1.0M HC1 is 22%. Also, HMF can be observed in chloroform at 279 µ and at 286 µ in 0.2M NaOH.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
