Valproic acid in association with sodium valproate (VPA) is an important anticonvulsant drug used for decades to treat neurological disorders. VPA also acts as an epigenetic modulator by inhibiting histone deacetylases, permitting histone acetylation, affecting the DNA and histone methylation status and gene expression, and inducing chromatin remodeling. Insects represent an important animal model for studies in several areas of science. Their high phenotypic plasticity makes them alternative models for epigenetic studies. This brief review emphasizes recent reports on insect epigenetics and the contribution of studies on the VPA action in insects, including effects on epigenetic markers, extending the pharmacological understanding of the potential of this drug, and demonstrating the usefulness of insects as an alternative animal model to drug studies.

Background Worldwide stays confirmed that more than 7 million people experience acute myocardial infarction, in which one-year mortality rates range from 10%. The consequences are more dramatic among patients who survived because they are 20% likely to suffer a second cardiovascular event in the first year and mostly occur in those with a previous hospital discharge. Evidence has shown that prevention after a myocardial infarction has been positively associated with an improvement in its prognosis. The European Society of Cardiology was determined to embrace this challenge, endorsing the crucial role of secondary programs. However, recent studies allow us to state some gaps between the correlation of some important variables, related to secondary programs and patients that should be considered to reinforce good intervention practices. Purpose To analyze data capable of characterizing therapeutic programs considering the correlation between variables such as quality indicators, settings of implementation, use of digital technology, health professionals/organization enrolled, and the program's overall length. Methods We performed the analyses in different electronic databases, including published studies from 2007 to September 2022 that reported health therapeutic programs headed post at post-myocardial infarction patients or at risk. After identifying 609 titles, and screening 131 articles, accepting 20 full-text for systematic analysis. Results 16 studies included outpatient presence requirements in the relationship with the health care provider; 4 studies used mobile phone/ digital applications in patient health communication; 3 programs included multi-professional collaboration, the other 7 studies were single-professional with relevance to psychologists and physiotherapists; only 3 studies were conducted in the community setting; Overall, the maximum of programs length ranged from 3 to 42 months; Only 4 studies evaluated the efficiency of the interventions, considering the cost to the organization of the programs and the hospitalized patients; 18 studies related their efficiency based on changes in patient's health behavior and biological parameters. Overall, in terms of the methodology outlined 60% of the studies used a quantitative design, 10% used a mixed plan, and 15% did not refer to it. Conclusions we confirmed the absence of prior guidelines for secondary programs' uniformization, which corroborate the need affirmed for the European Society of Cardiology of endorsing the crucial role and the impact of secondary programs on patient`s health path, tailored to patients needs. We highlight the importance of using mixed methodologies, and prospective design capable of capturing the whole phenomenon. We did not identify any study considering the interoperability of health organizations as a strategy capable of adding value.
Operating system security has been steadily evolving over the years. Several mechanisms, softwares and guides of best practices of configuration have been developed to contribute with the security of such systems. The process that makes an operating system safer by considering the default level obtained at the installation is known as hardening. Experience and technical knowledge are important attributes for the professional performing this process. In this context, automated rule-based tools are often used to assist professionals with little experience in vulnerability identification activities. However, the use of rules establishes a dependency on developers for the development of new rules as well as to keep them updated. Failure to update rules can significantly compromise the integrity of vulnerability identification results. In this paper, the Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) technique is used to improve tools that assist inexperienced professionals in conducting vulnerability identification activities. The purpose of using CBR is to make inexperienced professionals obtain similar results as experienced professionals. In addition, the dependence on rule developers is diminished. A prototype was developed considering the GNU/Linux system in order to carry out an experimental evaluation. This evaluation demonstrated that the application of CBR improves the performance of inexperienced professionals in terms of the number of identified vulnerabilities.
Background The Street Clinic was created to expand access to health for Homeless Persons. Within the service, the role of the nursing team is very important in accessing and establishing care, welcoming, bond building, promoting a save environment, health prevention and education, interdisciplinary communication, patient management and articulation with other services. The research aimed to analyze the objects, instruments, purposes and products in the nursing work process, considering the principle of equity of Brazilian National Health System and the serious vulnerability of the population in question. In this way, it is necessary to understand the valorization of nursing. Methods Study of qualitative approach with participant observation, field diary, application of three semi-structured interviews and use of thematic content analysis method. The study scenario was the nursing team of the Street Clinic in a city in the interior of São Paulo. Results The following elements of the nursing work process were analyzed: dwelling place, health demands and intersectionality of this population (objects); team organization, materials, harm reduction, communication with the intersectoral network, assistance, health guidance, opportunities for action, administration, management and personal and professional transformation (instruments); comprehensive and equitable care, building bonds and trust (purposes and products). Nursing, in this process and within a biomedical logic in the service, faces overload, pressure and devaluation. Conclusions Nursing is configured as a strategic category in the performance of the Street Clinic and in the equity of care. There are facilities and difficulties to act independently with the multiprofissional team, especially with the biomedical model present in the service. It is necessary to build recognition of the performance of nursing and the empowerment of professionals in this category. Key messages Nursing still needs professional empowerment and recognition of the importance of their work process as essential in addressing vulnerabilities and equity in care. Bonding, trust and harm reduction are essential elements in the nursing work process in addressing the vulnerability of the Homeless Persons.
