Literary works are the reflection of real life. Movie is a literary work that tells a story by using some conflict. The character in a movie usually describes the human psychology and behavior. Ambition is one of human psychology. This research discusses about the ambition of the main characters in Perfume: the Story of a Murderer. This movie tells about the ambitious the main character to make a perfume by killed 26 victims. He has an ambition to fulfill their psychogenic needs. The fulfillment of psychogenic needs that is experienced by the main character on the movie is analyzed in Henry Murray's The Need Theory of Personality. This research is conducted by using the qualitative method. This research uses psychological approach to analyze the fictitious of the main character. The result from this study is that the ambition has the causes and the effects.
The main objective of this community service activity is to increase the knowledge and understanding of the Dumati village community in general about the importance of English language in relation to managing tourist objects. The future of the world tourism industry has such a bright prospect as stated by the World Tourism Organization (WTO), even the world tourism organization estimates that tourism will grow with an average growth of 4.2% per year. One of the regions that will experience the greatest growth rates are countries in Asia, including Indonesia. Of course, it is very important for the parties to receive foreign language assistance to the community in implementing the concept of tourism for the realization of sustainable tourism. And how to do it so that tourists do not experience language barriers so that sustainable tourism can be realized. The current community service uses focus group discussion and in-depth interviews that aims to develop the community’s awareness toward the importance of English language mastery as the key factor for sustainable tourism in Gorontalo. This activity received a very good response and went well. Dumati village officials and the village community were very enthusiastic about participating in this seminar, it was seen from the many people who participated by asking questions and discussing the concept of English language that could be developed in the Embung Dumati tourism village. This community service is hoped to form basic information on how’s the community’s level of English and how to develop from there.
The present study was conducted based on the assumption that accommodating students’ differences in classroom setting will lead to students’ success particularly in language learning. This research was aimed to investigate the extent of the application of Multiple Intelligence-Based Activities (MIBA) to promote students’ writing performance. There are 2 homogenous groups of the 4th semester of English Department students of Gorontalo State University enrolled in this study. A total of 40 students from control and experimental group were involved. This study applied quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest that were given to both groups followed by the perceptional questionnaire to find out the students’ perception toward the application of MIBA. The experimentation comprised 8 types of activities as the embodiment of 8 intelligences proposed by Gardner (2011) to be incorporated into students’ writing class. The students’ writing performance was measured through Jacobs et. al.’s analytic writing scale (as cited in Hughes, 2003) including content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanics, while the data from the questionnaire was analyzed through Likert scale measurement. The result of the independent sample t-test revealed that experimental group taught using MIBA showed a statistically significant performance compared to the control group taught using conventional way of teaching with t-observed value was greater than t-table value (2.532 > 2.042). At last, the data from perceptional questionnaire strongly suggest that the students of experimental group had positive perception toward the application of MIBA. Therefore, it can be concluded that MIBA gave a positive effect in promoting students’ writing performance.
This research discusses the slavery experienced by the characters in the Oliver Twist novel. Those who have no family and no place to stay eventually become slaves who are forced to work for the benefit of the owner. They are treated as property and often get physical violence. This research aims to analyze the types of slavery that are reflected in Oliver Twist novel. This research using descriptive qualitative methods. Researchers used the Marxist approach and slavery theory to find the types of slavery contained in Oliver Twist novel. From the results of the analysis, it was found that there are 4 types of slavery in Oliver Twist novel, namely forced labor, sex slavery, child slavery and domestic servitude.
AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh implementasi Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sebagai media dan sumber belajar dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris terhadap hasil belajar bahasa Inggris siswa SMA. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di sepuluh SMA Kabupaten Gorontalo, terdiri dari tujuh SMA negeri dan tiga SMA swasta. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode survei dengan pendekatan Cross Sectional Study. Sample 250 responden siswa SMA kelas XI diambil dari sepuluh SMA Negeri dan Swasta sebagai representasi dari populasi siswa SMA kelas XI yang ada di SMA Kabupaten Gorontalo. Sample ini diperoleh dari teknik probability sampling. Data diperoleh dengan metode kuesioner yang didistribusikan kepada 250 responden mengenai persepsi Imlementasi ICT sebagai media dan sumber belajar, dan metode dokumentasi terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang diperoleh dari nilai Ujian Tengah Semester, semester genap tahun ajar 2017/2018. Data kemudian dianalisis menggunakan metode Regresi Linear Sederhana untuk mengetahui pengaruh Implementasi ICT terhadap hasil belajar siswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa analisis yang dilakukan dengan korelasi Product Moment (rxy) antara implementasi ICT (X) dengan hasil belajar siswa kelas XI (Y) diperoleh koefisien korelasi sebesar 0.604 nilai yang kuat. Hasil ini menunjukkan hubungan atau pengaruh positif dan signifikan antara Implementasi ICT sebagai media dan sumber belajar dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris dengan hasil belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas XI. Nilai R Square atau nilai koefisiensi determinasi sebesar 0,365 yang berarti bahwa variabel dependen (Hasil Belajar) mampu dijelaskan oleh variabel independen (Implementasi ICT), sebesar 36,5%, sebaliknya sebesar 63,5% dapat dijelaskan oleh faktor-faktor lain yang tidak diikutsertakan dalam penelitian ini.
