Reduction of electrical consumption of a electric vehicle (EV) and electrical appliance is one of solutions for reduction of CO2 gas. Then, we have developed a novel permanent magnet motor for energy saving. In this paper, we propose a novel motor that can change magnetic flux by a new method magnetizing a permanent magnet and clarify the principle and unique characteristics. Furthermore, the results of analysis and experiments prove that the novel motor can change the flux of permanent magnet on load and has realization for a variable speed drive with high performance.Index Terms-permanent magnet motor, magnetization, reluctance torque, variable speed, high efficiency, electric vehicle, hybrid electric vehicle, energy saving
Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) improve the efficiency of a drive and reduce CO 2 emissions by regenerative braking and operating the engine under optimum conditions. To minimize the driving units, the motor size should be decreased and the maximum torque should be increased. Therefore, motors employing permanent magnets have been commonly used recently. For HEV and EV motors, Toshiba developed a motor that delivers a high reluctance torque, known as PRM, and has been applying it to various vehicles. This paper describes the current motor development status in TOSHIBA.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
