The objective is to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for identifying which surgical patients have a likelihood ratio of developing an infection. We included in the study all the patients who underwent surgeries with wound class considered clean at a regional public hospital in Brazil. The first step was a retrospective analysis of risk factors and a correlation test for identifying which clinical variables are best related to post-discharge infections. Then, we developed an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for pattern recognition to detect incidence of infections. The ANN can make accurate predictions in 77.3% of the cases in which an infection will occur, and the AUROC of the model is 0.9050. Thus, it is possible to take actions before the patients develop it, improving the quality of life and mental health as well as avoid increasing costs.
This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge level of Dentistry students, who have already taken the Dental Radiology and Maternal Child 1 courses at the University of Caxias do Sul in May 2020, on the appropriate prescriptions and protocols of different imaging exams in their daily clinical practice. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire was developed using the Google Forms online platform and divided into different sessions: a) personal information; b) prescription of CBCT; c) students' specific knowledge regarding CBCT images; d) prescription of dental radiography techniques; e) imaging diagnostics; f) exposure dose; g) care with the radiation protection of both the professional and the patient during processing time for conventional radiographs. Fifty-six participants received the form by email. Results: Regarding CBCT, 66.6% of the respondents have already used it, and 91.6% believe that it is essential to have easy access to this technology. Whereas 37.5% declared thorough knowledge of the main terminologies, 66.67% stated that they rarely prescribe CBCT. Regarding radiation protection, 97.92% of the respondents said they wear a lead apron to ensure patients' protection; however, 23% of the aprons do not include a thyroid gland shield. As for the sensitivity of radiographic films, 50% of the respondents use radiographic film F. Conclusion:Thus, we found that a lack of specific knowledge on CBCT examinations and on conventional radiographic films exists among dental surgeo.
The present study aimed to identify the knowledge and attitudes of dental surgeons regarding the guidelines contained in Ordinance SVS/MS No. 453, dated June 1, 1998, in force until the year 2019 and later replaced with Collegiate Board Resolution (RDC) No. 330/19. Our objective was to identify the practices of professionals working in the dental field regarding the knowledge of the essential criteria for performing periapical, interproximal, panoramic, cephalometric or even cone beam computed tomography imaging exams. The research tool was a questionnaire consisting of 45 questions based on Administrative Rule 453/98, which addresses the requirements for the organization and operation of diagnostic radiology services. The questionnaire was sent to 150 dentists via institutional e-mail, and only 55 professionals returned it. The responses revealed that 64% of the dentists declared not to be aware of the guidelines of ordinance 453/98 and 49.1% did not know the basic principles of radioprotection. Regarding the norms related to the environment, including the use of a chronometer, thermometer and time-temperature table, the study revealed that 83.6% of the interviewees did not use such equipment and that 74.5% of them were not aware of the technical details ofthe equipment. Regarding radiographic films, 64.5% answered that they did not know their sensitivity, and 25.5% did not use them as a protective barrier during the exams. Finally, the study revealed that the professional practices adopted by dental surgeons are insufficient to meet the principle contained in ordinance 453/98 and in the RDC 330/19, regarding the exposure of patients to a radiation dose.
