Student's science communication ability can be assessed by the Expert-Notice Dialogue (END) method which focusing on verbal explanations using graphs or images as a tool. This study aims to apply the END method to assess students' science communication ability. The study was conducted in two high schools with each sample of one class at each school (A and B). The number of experts in class A is 8 students and 7 in class B, the number of notice in class A 24 students and 30 in class B. The material chosen for explanation by expert is Ecosystem in class A and plant classification in class B. Research instruments are rubric of science communication ability, observation rubric, notice concept test and notice questionnaire. The implementation recorded with a video camera and then transcribed based on rubric science communication ability. The results showed that the average of science communication ability in class A and B was 60% and 61.8%, respectively, in enough categories. Mastery of the notice concept is in good category with 79.10 averages in class A and 94.64 in class B. Through the questionnaire notice it is known that the END method generally helps notice in understanding the concept.
In a deep excavation construction that adjacent to the existing buildings there is a concern that it will have a bad impact or effect on adjacent buildings. The effect of deep excavation induced deformation of the existing structures due to ground movements and ground surface settlement behind the wall which can cause a tilt of the building. The objective of this study is to observe the effect of deep excavation (7 storey basement) adjacent to the existing buildings with 7 and 5 storey basement located in South Jakarta. The basement is connected to the basement of the existing building so that the effect of diaphragm wall opening for connecting basement towards the substructures of the existing building is observed. This study was conducted by observing the deformation that occurs in the diaphragm of the existing building, and also observing the internal forces acting on the basement floors slabs of the existing buildings. Observations were made using a three-dimensional finite element program with the most commonly used material model for analysis of deep excavation, The Hardening Soil Model. The analysis was performed with drained conditions with phreatic calculation type and only calculated the static conditions. Results indicate that the deflection that occurs after the final stage of excavation is still within the allowable limit according to the SNI 8460:2017, which is less than 14 centimeters on the diaphragm wall of the existing buildings.
The existence of student autonomy in learning and the fulfilment of student learning needs is the main characteristic and key to creating student-centered learning. Distribution of learning autonomy and the fulfilment of students’ learning needs are two core indicators of student-centered learning. This study aims to analyze students’ perception on how far teachers have fulfilled their learning needs and distribute autonomy in managing learning process. A total of 235 students (110= = male; 125 = female) from public secondary school in the city of Bandung which implement Kurikulum Merdeka were involved as the research subject. The data was gathered by survey method through Likert style questionnaire consists of 25 behavioural descriptions that describe teacher teaching behaviour to facilitate students’ learning needs and autonomy and was then analysed by quantitative descriptive method. Study findings show that in overall, students perceived that teachers’ capability to meet their needs in learning and distribute autonomy was categorised as low. Furthermore, there is no significant different in perception between male and female students.
Language is important in everyday life to convey various information and opinions to others. English is a key International language for communicating with other people. This research is very interesting because it explores the teaching strategy used by the teacher in an English course, namely EF English First. This research aims at explaining the teachers' strategy of teaching speaking by using games for Frontrunner class. This research uses a qualitative with case study approach where the researcher conducts an interview and observation. This study focuses on the tenth level of Frontrunner class which at the ten to twelve is Upper Intermediate level, so that included in the B2 level in the CEFR. The results of study show the students are happy and learning becomes interactive by using games in teaching speaking. Because they can add new vocabularies and can develop their ideas by doing speaking activities.
