This article focuses on how the COVID-19 pandemic affects Emergency Medical Assistant’s (EMA) mental health. In addition, it aims to define which psychological consequences it entails and if they have received postgraduate training on how to face the pandemic by the Health System or organizations that depend on it. This is a qualitative exploratory study of a phenomenological type where a semi- structured ad-hoc interview has been used for data collection, answered by EMA. The results show the psychological impact that COVID-19 has had on the work and personal life of these workers, the lack of psychological resources and the multiple psychological consequences developed as a result of the neglect of their mental health. EMA reaffirm the psychological challenge the COVID-19 pandemic means, creating situation of greater stress and anxiety than implied internal impediments for the job, family and friends. Therefore, they express the necessity for psychological support, being able to develop a diversity of psychological help resources that allow EMA to release the pychological oppression caused by the added stressors of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Atención psicológica en los y las profesionales del SAMU ante el estrés postraumático Psychological care in SAMU professionals in the face of post-traumatic stress Estela Cebrián Ponce (1), Desirée Camús Jorques (1, 2), Carme Nácher Soliva (1), María Isabel Moreno Francés (1), Ana Sanchis Nogués (1) (1) Universidad de Valencia (2) SES-SAMU Valencia Resumen: El presente artículo se centra en conocer la percepción de los profesionales del Servicio de Atención Médica Urgente SAMU de la provincia de Valencia, en cuanto a la preparación previa a nivel psicológico ante situaciones que puedan llevar a sufrir estrés postraumático. También pretende determinar la necesidad de disponer de técnicas de prevención y control ante situaciones que lleven a estrés postraumático. El instrumento utilizado en la metodología es un cuestionario ad-hoc cumplimentado por parte de los profesionales del SAMU, creando así un estudio observacional transversal de tipo descriptivo. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que, la mayoría de los y las profesionales cree necesario recibir formación en técnicas de prevención y control de estrés postraumático. Todos los y las profesionales indican que, en su servicio no disponen de equipo de ayuda psicológica en caso de una situación que lleve a sufrir estrés postraumático. Mediante el siguiente artículo se manifiesta la necesidad de recibir formación para poder prevenir, controlar y afrontar mejores intervenciones con alta carga emocional que den lugar a estrés postraumático.
