Introduction: Osteoarthitisgenu is a joint disorder of the genu section due to a gradual decrease in cartilage bone cohesiveness. A metabolic syndrome is a group of both lipid and non-lipid abnormalities in an individual. This study aims to determine the relationship between metabolic syndrome and the incidence of osteoarthritis genu in type 2 DM patients at RSI Jemursari Surabaya. Methods: This study uses an analytic observational method with a cross-sectional design. The population of type 2 DM patients and samples were obtained according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sample size is 98 samples with a simple random sampling technique.Result: In this study, the frequency of the metabolic syndrome in this study (31.6%), age 55-65 years (38.7%), male gender (51.6%), and components of the metabolic syndrome include hypertension, type 2 diabetes, hypertriglyceridemia (83.9%). On the frequency of Genu Osteoarthritis (28.6%) with the age of 46-55 years (43%), female gender (61%). Osteoarthritis genu location distribution is mostly bilateral (60.7%). Conclusion: Based on the results of the Chi-Square Test statistical test using the SPSS statistical application, it shows a p significance value of 0.080 (> 0,05). Keywords: Metabolic syndrome, Osteoarthritis genu, DM type 2
Children and adolescents are groups that are vulnerable to the radicalism influence. Curiosity and trial-error behaviour make them tend to do risk-taking behaviours. If it is not accompanied by good self-control ability, it will encourage them to do actions without thinking about the impact of these actions (impulsivity). If it is not accompanied by empathy, then it tends to be behaviour that opposes and disrupts the interests of others (aggressive behaviour). This study aimed to assess the “Children of the Country” program as an effort to de-radicalize children and adolescents. Quasi experimental study was used on 30 children and adolescents in a shelter of street children in Surabaya with a pretest/ post-test design. In order to measure the outcome of the program, a Radical Personality Test (RPT) was developed using big five personality construct. The increase of nationalism and positive behaviour score is not much to compensate the increase of negative radicalism score. This evaluation brings awareness to form a novel de-radicalization strategy for children and adolescents in the future.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common type of arthritis (inflammation of the joints). OA can affect all cartilage throughout the body, including the spine, but mainly attacks the legs from the pelvis, especially the knee to the ankle which affects about 10% of men and 18% of women over 60 years old. Pharmacotherapy, surgery, and complementary therapy are the currently managements of OA. Nigella sativa (NS) is one of the herbal plants which is part of the prophet's medicines in the Islamic world which still used. Thymoquinone (TQ) is one of NS compound, has an anti-inflammatory effect by inhibit the formation of eicosanoids in leukocytes and lipid peroxidation, or inhibit the expression of PF NF-κB subunits and p50 subunits with TNF-a promoters, and reduce levels of C-reactive protein (CRP). TQ also has a chondroprotective effects mechanism by decreases prostaglandin E2 (PGE) mediated by IL-1β and inhibits MMP synthesis in chondrocytes. Through its anti-inflammatory and chondroprotective effect, NS is a potential therapeutic agent which beneficial use for OA management without toxicological effects when given.
Pada World Hepatitis Day, WHO membawa tema “Bringing hepatitis care closer to you” dengan harapan dapat menggugah kewaspadaan masyarakat terhadap hepatitis.
Introduction: The inflammatory process underlies either osteoarthritis (OA) or metabolic syndrome. Systemic inflammation that occurs in the metabolic syndrome will result in the production of inflammatory cytokines and activation of macrophages and chondrocytes. This can affect the entire body including joints and the surrounding tissues, causing OA. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DMT2) and hypertension are the first and second most common metabolic syndrome components found in OA patients. This study aimed to determine the relationship between metabolic syndrome and knee OA in DMT2 patients with hypertension. Methods: By using an analytic observational method and cross-sectional design, this study involved the medical records of patients with DMT2. The sample consisted of 50 medical records selected by using the purposive sampling technique and fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: This study involved 25 medical records of patients with and without knee (genu) OA. The characteristics of the sample were as follows: 1 medical record of patient aged 36-45 years, 18 medical records of patients aged 46-55 years, 16 medical records of patients aged 56-65 years, 15 medical records of patients aged > 65 years, 21 medical records of male patients, 29 medical records of female patients, 27 medical records with metabolic syndrome, and 23 medical records without metabolic syndrome. The association between metabolic syndrome and knee (genu) OA was analyzed by using the Chi-Square Test using the SPSS application, where the results showed a significance value of p < 0.05 (p = 0.001). Conclusion: This study shows that there is a significant association between metabolic syndrome and knee (genu) OA.
