Introduction: The process of degenerative aging was natural and experienced by every human being. One of the psychological problems experienced by the elderly was anxiety. Anxiety is defined as an emotional response that is influenced by the subconsciousness in a person associated with feelings of restlessness, worry, uncertainty, and other specific causes. One of the therapies to reduce the level of anxiety was by giving Cananga aromatherapy and practicing Dhikr. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of giving Cananga aromatherapy and Dhikr to reduce anxiety in older people with hypertension at Posyandu Tawarsari Wonosari Gunungkidul. Metodh: This study used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental with the pre-post test without a control group. The participants were 30 older people using a total sampling technique that was divided into two intervention groups. This study used paired sample t-test and an independent sample t-test to analyze the data. The anxiety response in the elderly was measured by using the HARS scale (Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale). This study obtained a p-value = 0.000 (p <0.05), indicating a significant difference in anxiety after the intervention of giving Cananga aromatherapy and Dhikr. Result: The comparison test results between the two intervention groups obtained a significant value, namely p = 0.876. It means that “HA” was accepted, namely the provision of Cananga aromatherapy and Dhikr, which effectively changed the anxiety levels. Conclusions: However, there was no significant difference between giving Cananga aromatherapy and Dhikr.
BACKGROUND: Elderly is the final phase of life where the body’s physiological functions decline. The decline in function causes older people to tend to experience susceptibility to degenerative diseases, such as diabetes mellitus (DM). The illness can be severe, causing high pain, mortality, and an increase in quality of life. The quality of life of older people is very closely related to their awareness regarding health and living habits, including physical pain, physical function, and vitality. AIM: This study aims to identify physical pain, physical function, and vitality in older people with DM. METHODS: This research used a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. Qualitative research is a research method that explains and provides understanding and interpretation of individual behavior and experiences in various forms. This research was conducted with semi-structured interviews, observations, and also field notes. Participants in this study were eight people selected using a purposive sampling technique. RESULTS: The results of this study stated that older people with DM experienced several complaints during the illness. Older people with DM experienced a decrease in physical function that can affect their activity. They stated that they have some resting disorders such as waking up at night and having difficulty in sleep patterns. Furthermore, the respondents also noted that they frequently felt exhausted. CONCLUSION: Physical pain, physical function, and vitality of the older people with DM in Padukuhan Kalirandu can be identified from the sub-themes obtained by researchers related to complaints of the older people during DM pain, injuries suffered by older people with DM, the experiences of the older people related to hospital treatment, older people’s daily activities, older people’s activities in the community, older people’s sports activities, disruption in activities, resting patterns, resting disorders, physical complaints related to fatigue, and how they overcome all of the pains and problems.
Aging is a natural process characterized by the decrease in the function of various organs of the body. This process is causing older people to have the risk of various health problems. One of the health problems this experienced by older people is body balance disorders. Body balance is influenced by complex and coordinated interactions of sensory components (visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive input) and motor or musculoskeletal responses. This research aims to provide an overview of the implementation of community nursing intervention and service in balance exercise to older people that have balance disorders in Padukahan Kalirandu, Bangunjiwo, Kasihan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. This study used A quasi-experiment method, which aims to determine the effectiveness of giving balance exercise interventions to older people. The sample in this study was 46 respondents. The location of this research was Posyandu Wreda Pratama Padukahan Kalirandu, Bangunjiwo, Kasihan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The results of this study show A decrease in the average results of the body balance before and after the intervention was given. The results before the intervention are 13.93 seconds, and after the intervention, it was decreased to 12.13 seconds.
Diabetes mellitus is a disease that has a high mortality and morbidity, caused by unhealthy life style, like rarely exercise, smoking, obesity, unhealthy diet, or stress. The elderly people are at risk to develop diabetes mellitus caused by the decreased of their physical condition, including the function of β cell which produce insulin as a regulator of blood glucoselevels. The researcher interested to identify risk factor that caused diabetes mellitus in elderly people. Research Purpose: Identifying risk factor that caused diabetes mellitus in elderly people at Kalirandu's Village, Bangunjiwo, Kasihan Bantul Yogyakarta. This is descriptive quantitative nonexperimental study with cross sectional approach. Sample used in this study were 80 elderly people. Data analysis used is univariate analysis in the form of frequency distribution. The results showed from 80 respondent, 17 (21,3%) respondents are overweight, 9 (11,2%) are smokers, 58 (72,5%) rarely exercised, 19 (23,8%) have unhealthy diet, and 7 (8,8%) are stressed. Rarely exercising is the highest risk factor that caused diabetes mellitus in elderly people. Further research could describe elderly people's knowledge about exercise or motivation to do exercise at Kalirandu's Village, Bangunjiwo, Kasihan BantulYogyakarta.
Background: The aging process makes the sleep quality of the elderly decrease and irregular. Physical activity that can be done by the elderly is gymnastics. Gymnastics in elderly maintain the blood circulation and avoid cardiovascular disease. Elderly gymnastics must begin with the belief and motivation of the elderly in participating the gymnastics. High motivation in the elderly causes a high spirit to participate in gymnastics and improve their sleep quality. Thus, in this study, we identify the motivation of the elderly in participating in elderly gymnastics for their quality of sleep in Padukuhan Lemahdadi.Methods: This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data retrieval is carried out by interviews, observations, and field records. Participants included 7 older people who were determined by a purposive sampling technique. Data validity used a triangulation technique. Furthermore, data analysis consisted of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion.Results: In this study evaluate seven elderly. The results of this study showed that the motivation of the elderly to participate in elderly gymnastics affects the quality of elderly sleep quality. It was influenced by several things: elderly motivation in participating in elderly gymnastics, pain reduction measures performed by the elderly, the influence of elderly gymnastics on health, and the positive impact of elderly who participated in gymnastics.Conclusion: The sleep quality in older people who participated in elderly gymnastics can be seen from the motivation given by family and others, quality of sleep after elderly gymnastics, and efforts to maintain the quality of elderly sleep. Furthermore, the researchers are suggested to conduct further research identifying the role of health services in the motivation of the elderly in participating in elderly gymnastics.
