ABSTRACT Title: Analysis Models Intervention Generation X of Plastic Waste Management in Medan CityBackground: As many as 2,000 tons of waste per day were produced in the city of Medan in 2022, with a plastic waste composition of 14.7%. Waste ware not managed will damage the aesthetics of the environment and become a breeding ground for various disease vectors. This study aims to analyze the results of plastic waste management interventions in generation X.Method: This type of research is analytic with a cross-sectional design. Respondents were generation X aged over 40 years, as 94 heads of families were selected by purposive sampling. Quantitative data analysis used Mc Nemar's Test and Wilcoxon's Test.Result: The Intervention models for Generation X through development, education and mentoring, monitoring with a waste control card, evaluation, and establishing a 3R family. The results of the Mc Nemar test on changes in sorting behavior before and after the intervention P value <0.001, and 50 assisted families (53%) experienced positive changes in waste sorting behavior. Wilcoxon Test Results Differences in Waste Weight Before and After the Intervention p value <0.001, as many as 65 people or 69% of the assisted families produce less waste after the intervention. The average reduction in total waste weight per day was 40.22%, (105.5 gr/person/day) specifically, the reduction in plastic waste reached 51.86%.Conclusion: The intervention model through mentoring and counseling on the comunity of 3R actions to assist families has a positive effect on the behavior of sorting waste in the community and reducing the weight of waste.
Every day was produced dry organic waste from Ahmad Yani Park Medan City accumulates in the Tanjung Marelan Landfills. The average waste generation reaches 0.797 m3/day. Continuous accumulation of dry organic waste can endanger the environment and public health. The purpose of the study was to examine how effective composting is as a method of managing dry organic waste in a city park. This research is quasi-experimental, research object was 5 kg of dry organic waste, four repetitions with three composting methods, namely Barkley, Composting Bag, and Takakura. The research location is Taman Ahmad Yani, Medan City. The study used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with ANOVA one-way test and Bonferroni Test. Based on the results of the study, the composting time for dry organic waste in the three composting methods applied lasted 19-25 days. The results of the study, the composting time for dry organic waste is 19-25 days. The compost maturity characteristics same for each composting method, namely blackish brown in color, earthy smell and texture, pH 7,0-7,2, and temperature <30oC according to SNI Compost Quality Standard: 19-7030-2004. Based on the results of the ANOVA test p-value=0,010 and Bonferroni Test, showed that there was a significant difference in the decrease the volume of dry organic waste in each treatment after composting. The reduction of dry organic waste reached 67% -75.75%. The application of the composting method is an effective solution as a dry organic waste management method to reduce the accumulation of dry organic waste in landfills.
Background: Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is an endemic disease in Tebing Tinggi, the number of DHF cases in 2022 reached 175. Protection strategy and the number of landfills are risk factors for the presence of Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between protection strategy and the number of containers in the presence of Aedes aegypti. Methods: This type of research was an analytic survey with a cross-sectional research design. The study population was all families living in 5 sub-districts in Tebing Tinggi city with 500 houses selected using a cluster sampling technique. Primary data collection used a questionnaire containing questions on protection strategy and location points, also observation sheets containing the type of landfills, and the number and presence of larvae. Data were analyzed by Chi-Square test. Results: The results showed that Aedes aegypti larvae were found in 144 houses and 14% of families had made protection strategies, 41% of houses had more than 4 containers. Protection strategies against the presence of grass bushes within a radius of 100 meters from the house and the number of landfills had a relationship with the presence of Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae (p<0.05). Conclusions: Tebing Tinggi city is an area that has a high potential risk of DHF. Suggestions for increasing DHF protection strategy and eliminating resting places and breeding places are important for empowering jumantik at the family level as well as providing ongoing assistance and education.
