The essence of human existence depends on the environment and fellow humans. The activity of human life takes place in space and to show its existence human beings always create space, so that there is a process of human settlement in a certain place. The culture of settling in the people of East Nusa Tenggara creates certain patterned settlements. The phenomenon of living culture-based occurs in the Sikka community. Space philosophy emerged in the process of building houses and villages in the Sikka community. This paper presents the meaning of space in the culture of the settlements of the Sikka community. Research carried out with a qualitative paradigm, presented descriptively and associated with relevant literature. As a result, the culture settled and built the residence of the tribes within the village (Wisung-wagang), kampung, magical concepts (Lero and kala), and Amerta were closely related to the concepts and meaning of space according to the culture of the Sikka community.Keywords:space, culture, house, Sikka communityAbstrak: Hakekat keberadaan manusia bergantung pada lingkungan dan sesama manusia. Aktivitas kehidupan manusia berlangsung dalam ruang dan untuk menunjukkan eksistensinya manusia selalu menciptakan ruang, sehingga terjadi proses bermukim manusia pada tempat tertentu. Budaya bermukim pada masyarakat Nusa Tenggara Timur menciptakan permukiman berpola tertentu. Fenomena bermukim berbasis budaya terjadi di kalangan masyarakat Sikka. Filosofi ruang muncul pada proses pembangunan rumah maupun kampung di kalangan masyarakat Sikka. Tulisan ini memaparkan makna ruang dalam budaya bermukim masyarakat Sikka. Penelitian dilakukan dengan paradigma kualitatif, disajikan secara deskriptif dan dikaitkan dengan pustaka yang relevan. Ume kbubu, as the traditional house of the Fatumnasi community, is a cultural product from local wisdom which has continually been adapted to the environment to ensure its sustainability. This research was, therefore, conducted to explore the principles of sustainable architecture in ume kbubu using an explorative approach with an ethnographic design applied to obtain necessary information from the objects of study such as the houses of the Village Head and the leader of Hamlet 1 in Fatumnasi village which were determined using a purposive sampling technique. The data were obtained through observation, interviews, and literature study and the results showed the ume kbubu’s sustainability is due to its long adaptation and natural selection for years which makes it a sustainable architecture and was also found to fulfill the three elements required which are economic, social and environmental.
Permukiman Airmata adalah permukiman yang berada di bantaran sungai Kali Kaca dirancang dan dibangun para pendiri permukiman berdasarkan keadaan lokasi, perkembangan kehidupan masyarakat setempat, kearifan lokal dan sejarah penyebaran agama Islam di kota Kupang. Permukiman Airmata tumbuh pesat sejak dijadikan kampung ziarah rohani bagi agama Islam di NTT. Karakter permukiman Airmata sangat khas sehingga menarik untuk dikaji mengenai keberlanjutan budaya bermukim di bantaran sungai Kali Kaca dan perubahannya yang diakibatkan oleh meningkatnya jumlah penduduk dan pertumbuhan kota. Permasalah penelitian dalam tulisanini adalah bagaimana kelestarian dan perubahan (continue and change) permukiman Airmata di bantaran sungai Kali Kaca dan bagaimana seharusnya konsep keberlangsungan budaya bermukim di bantaran sungai dapat dilestarikan. Observasi lapangan dan kajian pustaka digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian, terdapat indikasi perubahan fisik, fungsi dan makna dari permukiman Airmata, namun keterkaitan permukiman Airmata dengan sungai Kali Kaca cenderung dipertahankan. Keaslian dan keunikan permukiman Airmata bertahan apabila ditata dengan baik dengan konsekuensi pembenahan kegiatan ekonomi di sungai, penataan ruang permukiman dan sanitasi serta pelestarian ekosistem, sehingga kekhasan permukiman bantaran sungai, yaitu interaksi manusia dengan sungai dapat dilestarikan secara arif, dan kreatif.

This condition then inspired the Japanese Cabinet in 2016 to initiate society 5.0 or Society 5.0 through the Japanese Cabinet within the framework of the 5th Science and Technology Basic Plan. The big vision carried by the Japanese Cabinet in the 5th design and technology plan is to create a Super Intelligent Society (MSC). MSC is positioned as the fifth stage of development in the social structure of society, after previously the hunter / gatherer, agrarian, industrial, and information societies. In line with the development and innovation referred to above, the demand for services in the property sector, especially in building buildings, is getting higher. So that the concept of "Smart Building" or better known as Smart Building / Intelligent Building is created. This concept was born as a result of increasing human welfare and changes in modern life patterns that demand a level of service and management of the building environment, which greatly affects the welfare and services in the workplace, which in turn will affect productivity, morality and satisfaction. Therefore, efforts to adjust the current conditions between the speed of information technology development and the growth of a new generation of humans in this era which are almost linear / concurrent, as well as between society and building, are an effort that must be made so that technological and social developments can coincide. . This effort is what is meant by reformulation of Smart Buildings in the Concept of Society 5.0.
