Objective: To evaluate the clinico-pathological Correlation of Osteopontin in patients of Psoriasis. Methods: A cross-sectional clinical correlation study was done on 53 clinically diagnosed cases of psoriasis. All clinically diagnosed cases of Psoriasis were included after taking proper consent in a signed proforma. Patients were clinically evaluated and a proper history was taken including patient's age, sex, site, duration, family history, community, Itching, nail involvement, H/O associated endocrine disorder, H/O associated skin disorders. The Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score was evaluated on the basis of area coverage and plaque appearance.A detailed study of histopathological features and IHC osteopontin expression was analyzed. Results: About one fourth of patients were 20-30 &>40 years of age (26.4%). More than half of patients were males (69.8%). Lower limb was the most common affected site (75.5%). The duration of disease was 12-24 months in 50.9% patients. Psoriasis vulgaris was the most common clinical diagnosis (26.4%). Induration was among majority of patients (94.3%). PASI score ≥10 was among more than half of patients (60.4%). Parakeratosis and Dermal inflammation were the most common histopathological changes (96.2%). Moderate positivity of Osteopontinin the epidermis which was present among more than half of patients (60.4%) followed by weak (30.2%) and strong positivity (9.4%).In Dermis osteopontin positivity was moderate in (50.9%),followed by weak(39.6%) and strong positivity(9.4%)respectively. Conclusion: Because of varied clinical, histopathological and IHC feature of psoriasis. A definitive diagnosis in doubtful cases can be made by a combination of all the above parameters.
Hypothyroidism has broad clinical with high prevalence in Indian population. Hypothyroidism has been associated with many co morbid clinical conditions. Current Study conducted as retrospective study using data of newly diagnosed hypothyroid patients collected from outpatient department of Medicine. Study results showed that Female patients were in higher number than males. A total of 46% patients were overweight and 33.3% patients were obese. 58% patients presented with fatigue which was the commonest symptom among patients. Thyroid swelling was observed in 40% of participants. Menstrual abnormalities were reported by 80% female participants. Female participants had lower mean systolic blood pressure than male participants. Overall TSH level among all patients was 24.6 ±32.5mIU/L. Subclinical hypothyroidism was found in 16%patients. Female patients had higher mean TSH as compared to males. 10.6 % of patients were diagnosed to be suffering with Diabetes Mellitus. The current Study concludes that Hypothyroid patients should be evaluated for other co morbid associations for better patient management and outcome.
school (14-17 years) age. Potential predictors for early initiation included state-level factors (cigarette tax rates, marijuana legalization), cues to action (curiosity towards e-cigarette, friends or family being smokers, TV or movie stars being smokers, easy access, flavors, advertisements), perceived susceptibility (using any other tobacco product(s)), perceived benefits (trying to quit tobacco, relative costs, relative harm). Multi-variable logistic regression with backward selection was performed to retain the most significant predictors of early initiation of e-cigarettes. Results: A total of 358 and 1,496 were identified as early and late initiators of e-cigarettes. Those who tried to quit tobacco (OR=2.49, 95%CI=1.160-5.341), lived with e-cigarette smokers (OR=2.43, 95%CI=1.557-3.799) and cigarettes smokers (OR=1.67, 95%CI=1.078-2.596) were more likely to start e-cigarettes early. Conclusions: Home environment has a major impact on whether children will become e-cigarette smokers. It is alarming that middle school children reported starting e-cigarettes in order to quit tobacco smoking as there is limited evidence of using e-cigarettes as smoking cessation aid. Dual use of e-cigarettes and cigarettes may extend the nicotine addiction which will pose a greater health risk when exposed in early age. Schools should consider promoting a youth e-cigarette prevention campaign to curb the epidemic of e-cigarettes in early school age children.
