We have used two digital imaging systems: digital fluorography and the phosphor plates system. The respective indications for each technique in pediatric practice are presented hereafter. Digital fluorography is highly recommended for dynamic examinations, and phosphor plates are highly recommended for conventional studies, if the spatial resolution is mandatory. Either digital fluorography or phosphor plates can be used for contrast studies. In pediatric radiology, if the spatial resolution is not mandatory, digital fluorography is suggested to reduce the radiation dose, and if using a small fields of view is possible, digital fluorography may be carefuily discussed. Digital radiography is supported neither to be better than classical radiology nor to compensate for technician's mistakes. It is aimed to improve the department's functioning and, above all, to accommodate future innovations. Images can be transferred or archived through networks. This is a main prospect in the coming years.
Spectro-photometer, Fibre optics, EUREKA.lt is now well accepted that the increase of atmospheric greenhouse effect gases, particularly the carbon dioxide, has an important impact on our climatic system, even if the true effect of the development of human industrial activities is not totally assessed. It is then necessary to have a good overall knowledge of the carbon dioxide cycle, and more particularly the fluxes exchanged the three C02 tanks: atmosphere, ocean and continental biosphere. Since the ocean is the biggest carbon tank (60 times the atmosphere tank), it constitutes an important potential well for the atmospheric C02. However, the data available show an uncertainty of ca. 30% on the estimated flux. It is then important to assess the quantity of C02 at the surface of the ocean, and the corresponding atmosphere/ocean flux. The possible future atmospheric C02 concentration corresponding to different industrial emission scenarli can then be assessed. The method of measurement of the C02 at the sea surface use spectro-photometry of a sensitive dye, housed in a tank which has walls immersed in the sea water. The spectro-photometer especially designed, patented and build-up by IFP has been developed with special emphasis on high accuracy, rugged construction, ease of operation without maintenance and calibration over a period of time of over one year. The leading idea was to have as few intemal moving parts as possible by the use of fibre optics, and intemal calibration by the use of internal reference channels. Ancillary data are also measured. Data is transmitted to the processing centre via ARGOS.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
