Bajakah wood (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk) is a native plant of Kalimantan which is widely used by the community to treat diarrhea, dysentery, aches, and pains, wound medicine and is even believed to be a cancer drug. Research on this plant is still very limited. The content of flavonoids is thought to act as an anti-inflammatory. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Kayu Bajakah (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk) as an anti-inflammatory in male rats induced by carrageenin. The method used in this study was an experimental method using 21 male white rats aged 2-3 months weighing 150-250 grams which were divided into 7 groups, namely the normal group, the CMC Na group, the diclofenac sodium group 1.35 mg/day. 200 g BW and 4 doses of Kayu Bajakah ethanol extract: 50, 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg BW orally. Fifteen minutes after treatment, mice were injected with 1% carrageenin subplantar. The volume of edema was measured with a plestimometer every 60 minutes for 4 hours. Anti-inflammatory was measured by comparing the percentage value of edema inhibition in the control and treatment groups. The results showed that the four treatment groups had a significantly different total volume of edema at 240' minutes with a significance value less than 0.05. The greatest anti-inflammatory effect was at a dose of 400 mg/kg BW at the 240th minute with a percentage of 87.65%. Kayu Bajakah (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk) ethanol extract has anti-inflammatory activity.
Covid-19 is a pandemic disease that infects the respiratory system by cough and sneeze. Covid 19 infection rate in Indonesia is high. On March 2nd 2020, there was reported 2 confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection. Natural ingredients contain a secondary metabolite compound has the potential as an antimicrobial that can be used to kill microorganism as a source of the disease. Natural ingredients that are commonly used as antimicrobials such as bundung, betel leaf and lime peel. Pharmaceutical formulations from natural ingredients need to be made to obtain preparations that are beneficial to the community because they are safer and have minimal side effects. Based on this description, it is necessary to conduct training on the manufacture of pharmaceutical products from natural ingredients or local resources that are easy to make so it can be useful and beneficial for the community during the Covid-19 pandemic. The activities were carried out virtually, followed by the teacher council and students from High School 1 Kahayan Hilir. The activities carried out by providing information related to the efficacy of natural ingredients from local resources, training or workshops on the manufacture of pharmaceutical products and education regarding storing and how to use drugs correctly. This activity is expected to be useful and make a big contribution to the community during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kata Kunci: Komunikasi Kesehatan, Komunikasi EfektifPerception of Communication Education Needs in HealthAbstract Background: Effective communication has become an important key in achieving the goal of a therapy. Effective communication, whether it was inter-health proffessions, or between health proffessions and the patients, were also be able to avoid medication errors. Objective: The objective of this study was to review any perceptions of communication education needed for health students, plus the reasons why it was necessary. Methods: Methods used in this study was a randomly conducted survey on 174 respondents consisting of pharmacy, nursing, and midwifery students who were/ had been undergoing any services, field work practices, or internships. Results: The result of this study showed that 99.4% of respondents considered communication education as important, while 34.7% stated their lacking of communication science in class. Conclusion: Health communication should be the main ability and be accompanied with sufficient practice, so that it would train health students to interact well both with patients and other health proffessions. Background: In the world, 800.000 children die every year due to diarrheal diseases. Chronic diarrhea is usually caused by a bacterial infection, one of which is E. coli. Empirically, Dayaknese in Sampit, Central Kalimantan consuming Laban bark to treat diarrhea and dysentery. Through this research, people get scientific information about Laban wood as an alternative herbal medicine for treating diarrhea. Objective: To find out whether Laban bark can inhibit Escherichia coli bacteria and to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration in Laban bark extract that can inhibit Escherichia coli bacteria. Methods: This type of research used true experimental design with research post test only control group design. The research subjects were Escherichia coli cultured on Muller Hinton Agar (MHA) media and Laban bark extract with 3 different concentrations using the disc diffusion method. This study had 2 control groups and 3 treatment groups, DMSO as negative control, ciprofloxacin as positive control and ethanol extract of Laban bark with concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75%. Inhibition zone diameter results were analyzed quantitatively in 3 replications. Results: The results showed that the concentrations of 25%, 50% and 75% of the extract had bacterial inhibition, in the very strong antibacterial category. Conclusion: The ethanol extract of Laban bark can inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli with an minimun inhibitory concentration 25%, which is in the very strong inhibition category.
