The bandpass filter with a wide stopband bandwidth is proposed from using a folded hybrid over/under-coupled line structure. A sample 2.4/3-GHz diplexer composed of the folded filters in a direct-parallel topology layout is presented with good performance. A simple but rather accurate prediction method is proposed to calculate the dimensions of the extended over/under-coupled section. Moreover, a novel technology based on the folded line topology to relocate the third zero is demonstrated for a wider rejection bandwidth. The filter and diplexer are studied and demonstrated for the folded topology with a proper connection line design between filters. The significantly improved out-of-band specification should be applicable in many mobile communications.
