The second- and third-order hyperpolarizabilities of various mono- and meta-disubstituted benzene derivatives have been measured in the liquid state by simultaneous use of static-field induced second-harmonic generation and tunable four-wave mixing. For the vector part of the second-order optical nonlinearity comparison is made between liquid-state and solid-state experimental data.
A new method of nonlinear spectroscopy aiming to probe solids in the highly dispersive and absorbing region is presented. It requires only one laser and uses wave-vector rather than frequency discrimination of the nonlinear signal from the input beams. Application is made to the study of the T x biexciton level in CuCl.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
