The incidence of fibrous pseudotumor of the tunica vaginalis testis is rare. It is a benign, fibroproliferative process with hyalinization and sometimes with focal calcification. In most cases malignancy is suspected although by careful physical examination it may be possible to establish the diagnosis pre-operatively. The best form of therapy is frozen section biopsy of the pseudotumor followed by excision; including if necessary the tunica vaginalis. If the pseudotumor is locally extensive an epididymectomy is sometimes necessary. A study of the literature reveals that because of the rarity of this lesion orchidectomy appears to have been performed in most cases. A case report of a patient with fibrous pseudotumor of the tunica vaginalis testis is presented.
Two cases of fibroepithelial polyps of the ureter are reported. In one case the polyp was protruding through the meatus of the urethra whereas in the other case no clinical manifestations were observed. Both benign tumors were treated by local surgery. Etiology, clinical features, diagnosis and therapy are discussed.
Congenital polyps of the prostatic urethra are supposed to be rare benign hamartomatous protrusions of the urethral wall in infants. The core contains predominantly connective tissue with cellular constituents of the lamina propria, but also smooth muscle cells, islets of glandular cells and even nerve tissue have been described. The core is lined by transitional epithelium, but in several cases squamous metaplasia has been reported. Because the polyp may act as a ball valve, mainly obstructive symptoms are presented. Suprapubic approach is generally recommended resecting a polyp; however, smaller lesions are accessible to transurethral resection. Three cases presenting different symptoms are reported. In 1 patient the polyp contained keratinized squamous epithelium.
3 additional cases of inverted urothelial papilloma are presented. A pathological, clinical and epidemiological review of this rare urothelial lesion is given.
In 10 anesthesized mongrel dogs ureteral pressure profiles were obtained with two types of high density polyethylene catheters. During the profilometry X-ray image intensification was performed. The data obtained from both ureters and also from both types of catheters did not show any statistically significant difference (p ≤ 0.05). Near the uretero-vesical junction a statistically significant biphasically shaped graph with mean pressures of 89.2 ± 5.25 and 81.7 ± 8.43 (SEM) mm Hg for the proximal and distal top, respectively, was seen (p ≤ 0.05). This phenomenon corresponds with the morphology, as mentioned in literature and as investigated in this experiment by X-ray photographs at post-mortem specimens.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
