SUMMARYA new method has been developed for synthesizing substituted vinyl compounds which consists in altering polymers chemically and then depolymerizing them. The method has been applied especially satisfactorily to the preparation of halogenated styrenes.An extensive study of the depolymerization of polyvinyl compounds has been made and factors influencing yields of monomers have been determined.
