This study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of 5 months of α-tocopherol supplementation on physical performance during aerobic exercise training in 30 top-class cyclists. Antioxidative effects of supplementation were also studied. Plasma α-tocopherol concentration increased significantly in the vitamin E-supplemented group, whereas the placebo group showed a trend toward decrease. Physical performance did not improve in the α-tocopherol-supplemented group compared to the placebo group. Heart rates were also not significantly different. Lactate concentrations at the aerobic threshold and the anaerobic threshold were identical. Thus, there was no performance improvement in the α-tocopherol-supplemented group. However there was a significant reduction in CK in serum of the E-supplemented group. A trend toward decrease in GOT, GPT, and LDH was observed with α-tocopherol supplementation. Moreover, significantly reduced malondialdehyde serum levels were measured in the E-supplemented group. The findings indicate a protective effect of α-tocopherol supplementation against oxidative stress induced by strenuous exercise.

A simple and efficient HPLC method is described to measure both ascorbic and erythorbic acid separately in processed meat products. The system used consisted of a reversed-phase column, a mobile phase containing an ion-pairing agent and ultraviolet detection. The procedure, which was checked on a variety of samples, was found to give reproducible and reliable results.

Phosphorsaurepartialester werden vorzugsweise durch Umsetzung von P205 mit Fettalkohol hergestellt. Das gewwte Molverhiiltnis FettalkohoV P205 bestimmt die Gehalte der einzelnen Komponenten Mono-, Di-und Triester, Oligoester, freier Fettalkohol, freie Phosphonaure. Es werden mehrere Methoden zur Charalcterisierung und Bestimmung der einzelnen Komponenten eingesetzt, die potentiometrische Titration, die "P-Kernresonanz, die Gelchromatographie, die Ionenchromatographie und die Supercritical Fluid Chromatography. Aus den MeBergebnissen der einzelnen Methoden M3t sich die Zusammensetzung eines Phosphorsaurepartesters aufschliisseln. Mit einer Phosphorbilanzierung wird das Ergebnis einer Analyse iiberpfift. Die vorgestellte Analysenmethode I a t sich fiir saure Alkylphosphorsaurepartialester und ihre Salze einsetzen. Die Anal+ der Phosphorsaureester ethoxylierter Fettalkohole erfolgt unter AusschluD der chromatographischen Verfahren.
