By modeling cutting processes in the ANSYS and DEFORM software environments, can significantly reduce costs when choosing rational tool material for metal-cutting tool. For multilayer coatings on carbide substrate this is difficult for number of reasons. This possibility is shown and examples for using of the DEFORM software environment for choosing of rational or competing coatings, including for “designing” of the coating for the specified operating conditions of metal-cutting tool are presented.
Specialized stainless 09Kh17N7Yu steel becomes more usable in various fields of mechanical engineering due to its
unique properties, but recommendations for parameters of the cutting mode and for rational tool materials are out of date.
Due to this, excessive consumption of tool materials is observed. It is necessary to develop new recommendations with
adaptation to high-performance processing on CNC machines. The recommendations of foreign tool manufacturers are
insolvent for choosing their tool, because there are no direct foreign analogues of this steel. Researches are carried out to
reduce the consumption of hard tool alloys of VK, ТК and ТТК groups, as well as number of foreign tool materials. The
possibility of using VК8 alloy with coatings for turning by removable standard hard alloy plates is established. Rational
coatings are chosen from the number of known coatings. New coatings are developed for specified operating conditions
