A visioplastic analysis was carried out in hot rolled samples of different types of steel to study the way strain distributed during deformation. The studies were conducted on wedge-shaped specimens that were cut along their mid-plane, inscribed with a grid, spot welded at both ends and hot rolled in a two-high experimental mill. The coordinates of the nodal points in the grid were measured prior to rolling and after the samples cooled down to room temperature after deforming. This was done by photographing and digitizing the specimens, the spread that resulted from rolling was measured and used to correct the equivalent values of strain. The local components of strain were evaluated from both sets of coordinates. It was found that the distribution of strain followed different patterns, the shear and equivalent components were higher towards the surface, whereas the normal components show a distribution related to the reduction imparted.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
