Objective. To identify the role of values in commitment to various types of social activity.Background. The social activity of young people is the driver of the development of society. It contains very different initiatives – ranging from civil, political and economic to subcultural and radical protest. The most important task is to study the value factors of a person’s commitment to various forms of activity. Such scientific knowledge will allow us to establish the features of the value regulation of activity.Study design. The relationship between values and commitment to various forms of social activity. The presence and peculiarities of the relationship were recorded through correlation and regression analyses.Participants. 500 residents of Russia (average age M=21,6; 35,5% men, 64,5% women).Measurements. A questionnaire was applied, including 18 scale questions, meaningfully describing the forms of social activity (Shamionov R.M., & et al. ), followed by factorization of the data obtained, on the basis of which “new” variables of civil, protest, Internet-network and leisure activity were derived; “Portrait value questionnaire” Sh. Schwartz (PVQ-R2) with fixation of 19 basic values.Results. Various forms of social activity of young people form 4 enlarged groups (types) based on factor analysis: civil, protest, leisure and Internet network. The commitment of young people to leisure and Internet network activity is most pronounced. The interrelationships of types of activity and values cover all sectors of the circular motivational continuum of values. Schwartz. Values explain from 22% to 8% of the variance of different types of social activity.Conclusions. The most important prognostic values are the values of traditions and care for nature with low expression of the value of public safety (civic activity); universalism-care, power with low expression of the values of public safety and benevolence-care (protest activity); the value of stimulation, tradition and benevolence-care (leisure); values of independence-actions, power-resources with low expression of traditions (Internet-network).
Introduction. The study of predictors of the real and preferred level of students' participation in educational and developmental activities will improve the practice of psychological and pedagogical support of their learning process at the university. The purpose of the study is to analyze the characteristics of the personality and activity of students as predictors of the degree of realization and preference of educational and developmental activities. Methodology. The sample consisted of 412 full-time students aged 17-23 years (average M= 19.5; SD= 1.63) of both sexes (men – 37.6%, women – 62.4%). Methodology. A questionnaire was used to assess the degree of realization of forms of activity and the degree of preference for the same-named forms of social activity, a questionnaire S. Schwartz's questionnaire for measuring value preferences, V.M. Rusalov's questionnaire for determining functional and dynamic properties. The study was conducted on the basis of universities in Saratov (Russian Federation). Mathematical methods: descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis. The results of the study. More than three-quarters of all forms of social activity of students and the degree of preference are not consistent. The strongest discrepancies are between the degree of realization and preferences for educational and developmental activities of students. The characteristics of social activity explain 39% of the variations of the implemented educational and developmental activities, values – 12% and functional and dynamic properties – 6%. Variations in the preferred level of educational activity are explained by 29% activity, 18% values and 17% functional-dynamic properties. Discussion and conclusion. Professional, spiritual and Internet search activity are stable predictors of educational and developmental activities. Value predictors of students' educational and developmental activity are the values of universalism – caring for others and about nature, achievements and reputation. Ergicity and emotionality intellectual and psychomotor ergicity are predictors of educational and developmental activities. As a result of the research, proposals were made on the use of the data obtained in the educational practice of universities.
The purpose of the study presented in the article is to identify the relationship between commitment to civic engagement and socio-psychological characteristics of the individual. The study was carried out on a sample of young students (N = 110) aged 17 to 29 years (M = 23, SD = 3.98), 29% of men and 71% of women. The following methodological tools were used: a questionnaire aimed at fixing the socio-demographic characteristics of respondents; a questionnaire, including a scale of self-assessment of social activity and forms of its manifestation (R. M. Shamionov, I. V. Arendachuk, E. E. Bocharova, etc.); questions aimed at self-assessment of trust in the government institution in the possibility of realizing one’s own rights and freedoms; “Personal value questionnaire” by S. Schwartz (PVQ-R2) to study the expression of individual values. Presumably, there is a relationship between the severity of civil society and socio-political forms of activity, trust in institutional sources and values of openness to change. We discovered that the most preferred forms of social activity of young people are leisure, Internet network, spiritual and educational development. Young people are more likely to express confidence in their relatives or friends, and various Internet sources when exercising their rights and freedoms. We demonstrated that participation of young people in activities aimed at transforming society and expressing their own and collective civic position on issues of public life expands the possibilities of achieving personal professional, career and economic goals, as well as the realization of their cultural, national, religious interests, subject to the manifestation of trust in various governing institutions that implement the functions of ensuring the rights and freedoms of a person. Realization of civic activity is associated with desire for novelty and changes in society, on the one hand, the desire for change leads to generation of civic activity associated with transformation of society on the other hand. The value of “stimulation” is a predictor of civic activity. The study of this problem can be applied in work with young people in public municipal organizations, schools, institutes.
