The genus Sibiriulus Gulička, 1963, which has hitherto been known to comprise only four species, is rediagnosed and shown to include seven species from Siberia, Russia. Three species are described here as new to science: S. latisupremus sp. nov., S. baigazanensis sp. nov., S. aktashensis sp. nov. The species Sibiriulus profugus (Stuxberg, 1876) is recorded in the fauna of the Altai Province and the Republic of Altai for the first time. All currently known species of Sibiriulus are keyed and mapped, including the new species.
The order Glomerida is represented in Taiwan by five species in two genera, two subfamilies and one family. All species, as well as one genus and one subfamily, seem to be endemic to Taiwan. Among the species, Mauriesia splendida sp. nov. belongs in a new genus, Mauriesia gen. nov., which in its turn represents a new subfamily, Mauriesiinae subfam. nov., the latter differing strikingly from the remaining three subfamilies of Glomeridae both in the presence of a caudomedian lobule on the male pygidium and in telopod stoutness and conformation. Four further species belong to the large, basically Asian genus Hyleoglomeris Verhoeff, 1910: H. aurata sp. nov., H. sinuata sp. nov., H. proximata sp. nov. and H. vittata Verhoeff, 1929. A key is provided to all of the species of Glomerida in Taiwan, and their distributions are mapped and discussed.
Altajosoma corniferum sp. n. is described from the Republic of Altai, Siberia, Russia. The new species differs from congeners mainly by the large, horn-shaped lateral sheath processes of the posterior gonopod colpocoxites. New faunistic records for Altai are given for other species of the family Diplomaragnidae. All currently known members of Diplomaragnidae from Altai are keyed, including the new species.
The large, South and Southeast Asian millipede genus Anoplodesmus is rediagnosed and here reported from Taiwan for the first time, with two new, apparently northeasternmost species involved: A. spiniger sp. nov. and A. aspinosus sp. nov. Both of these congeners differ from each other primarily in several details of gonopod structure. “Takao”, the type locality of Geniculodesmus inexpectatus (Attems, 1944), is here rectified as actually being the same as Kaohsiung, Taiwan, not “Mount Takao, Hachiouji-shi, Tokyo Prefecture, Japan”.
Three new species of the millipede family Julidae Leach 1814 are described from the Republic of Altai, Siberia, Russia: Julus azarovae sp. n., Julus insolitus sp.n. and Sibiriulus rectangulus sp.n.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
