OBJECTIVE: This study assessed the impact of supplementing the diet of women during pregnancy and lactation with fish oil containing the omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid, and its influence on the composition of human milk. METHODS: The sample comprised 60 women aged 18 to 38 years with appropriate dietary pattern, all of them healthy and nonsmokers. The intervention consisted of a daily supplementation with fish oil capsules that corresponded to a daily intake of 315mg of docosahexaenoic acid and 80mg of eicosapentaenoic acid during the third trimester of pregnancy and the first three months postpartum. The total fat content and fatty acid profile of their milk were determined by creamatocrit and gas chromatography. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis and the significance level was set at p<0.05. RESULTS: There was no statistical difference between the fat contents of the study (fish oil capsules) and control (capsules containing corn starch as filler) groups. However, the milk of women taking fish oil contained higher docosahexaenoic and eicosapentaenoic acid levels 30 and 60 days after delivery. These results demonstrate that high omega-3 intake can influence its concentration in human milk. CONCLUSIONS: Given the importance of docosahexaenoic acid in the neonatal period, it is appropriate for pregnant and breastfeeding women to supplement on long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, which may be done by adding fish oil to the regular diet.
Based on our results obtained, the supplementation of human milk from milk banks is warranted for use with low birthweight newborns. The proposed supplement was shown to be practical and safe, and it did not interfere with the microbiological quality of human milk.
RESUMO:Baccharis rufescens Spreng. var. tenuifolia (DC.) Baker pertence à família Asteraceae e é usada na medicina tradicional como estomáquico e hepatoprotetor. Um estudo fitoquímico mostrou a presença de flavonoides e triterpenos, sendo que os extratos clorofórmico e metanólico de folhas apresentaram-se ativos no bioensaio de toxicidade sobre Artemia salina Leach. Além disso, extratos clorofórmicos evidenciaram a presença de peróxidos, sugerindo sua aplicação no tratamento da malária (Schenkel at al., 2002;Montanher et al., 2002;Moreira et al., 2003). Considerando a importância farmacológica de B. rufescens var. tenuifolia, o presente trabalho objetivou o estudo morfoanatômico e histoquímico do caule e da folha dessa espécie, a fim de fornecer subsídios farmacognósticos para o controle de qualidade. O material botânico foi submetido às técnicas usuais empregadas na microscopia de luz e microscopia eletrônica de varredura. Folha anfiestomática, presença de estômatos anomocíticos, tricomas glandulares capitados bisseriados, tricomas tectores flageliformes simples unisseriados, dutos secretores associados ao floema, calota de fibras perivasculares e cristais de oxalato de cálcio do tipo estiloide e prismático na região medular do caule foram as principais características observadas que auxiliam na identificação do táxon.Palavras-chave: Asteraceae, Baccharis, Baccharis rufescens Spreng. var. tenuifolia (DC.) Chloroform and methanol extracts of the leaves showed activity in the bioassay of brine shrimp. Chloroform extracts showed the presence of peroxides that can be used to treat malaria (Schenkel et al., 2002;Montanher et al., 2002;Moreira et al., 2003). Considering the pharmacological importance of B. rufescens var. tenuifolia, the purpose of this paper was to perform the anatomical analysis of aerial vegetative parts of Baccharis rufescens var. tenuifolia in order to provide pharmacognostic data for quality control. The plant material was studied by the usual methods of light and scanning electron microscopy. Amphistomatic leaves, anomocytic stomata, biseriate capitate glandular trichomes, uniseriate simple flagelliform non-glandular trichomes, secretory ducts associated to the phloem, perivascular fiber cap, calcium oxalate as prismatic and styloid crystals in the pith of the stem were reported as the mainly anatomical data for B. rufescens var. tenuifolia.Ouvir Ler foneticamente
Avaliar a relação dos hábitos alimentares com a qualidade de vida de trabalhadores de uma empresa de fornecimento de energia. MÉTODOS: Para desenvolvimento da pesquisa foram avaliados os itens qualidade de vida (através do WHOQOL-Bref) e consumo alimentar (por meio do Questionário de Frequência Alimentar-QFA), em 50 trabalhadores de numa empresa de fornecimento de energia, localizada na cidade de Ponta Grossa, no estado do Paraná-Brasil. RESULTADOS: A população envolvida na pesquisa, na sua maioria, relatou possuir uma boa qualidade de vida, porém os resultados obtidos indicaram prevalência de dieta que necessita de modificações. Grupos alimentares como frutas e leguminosas são ingeridos com pouca frequência, enquanto que grupos de bebidas açucaradas e gorduras são consumidos além do preconizado. CONCLUSÕES: Não sendo observada relação entre percepção de qualidade de vida e hábito alimentar, torna-se importante a necessidade de se incluírem nos programas de promoção da qualidade de vida dos trabalhadores temas relacionados a hábitos alimentares saudáveis.
