Experiments reported in this paper show that grinding up skin in tissue culture medium can release a potent stimulant to epidermal cells, causing them to go into DNA synthesis within 4 hr. in vitro. Some progress has been made in elucidating the nature of this stimulant, but it is not yet characterized. A possible role in wound healing is discussed.
