The scattering of electromagnetic radiation by a fully ionized, collision&ominated plasma in a magnetic field is investigated using a stochastic approach. The stochastic equations for the density-Auctuation operators are modified to include particle collisions through a Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook collision model. The equations of this model are constructed to conserve particle number, energy, and momentum. Explicit numerical results are obtained in the absence of magnetic fields and compared to experimental values and other theories. The analytical results are assumed valid for plasmas which can be characterized by Maxwellian velocity distributions for electrons and ions at the same or different temperatures.
Ulth recent changes plovided by the Clean Alr Act Amendment of 1977, the effect of industrial smoke plumes on scenic landscapes assumes heightened importance. The impact of large coal-fired power plants is most easily understood through the use of before-and-after photographs. A technique has been developed to modify a clean "before" scene as dictated by solutions to the radiation tranafer problem in a polluted atmosphere. This allows one to produce simulated "after" scenes, which can illustrate the visual effects of pollutants emitted under a variety of circumstance. Application of this techniquo to very large conlfired power plants suggests that such facilities may impair scenic vistas under some circumstances, unless stricter pollution controls and standards are enforced.
Ours is a period of upheaval in Christology, one that has been compared to the period after the death/resurrection of Jesus, when his followers were developing different ways of speaking about him. It has also been compared to the struggles in the fourth and fifth centuries to clarify what was the orthodox Christian belief in Jesus. New insights and concerns are raising new christological questions. The old answers are no longer convincing for many. It is not enough to repeat the words of the creed. We need to discover what these ancient creeds mean for us today.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
