The purpose f this study was to analyze gender-based biological concepts understanding at secondary school students of bilingual programs. 6 (sixth) problems, according to Bloom’s taxonomy categorization, were designed consisted of: understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. The topics included cell, classification of the organism, ecology, plant anatomy and physiology, and human anatomy and physiology. Samples were 47 students from grade nine (secondary school) from one of the bilingual secondary schools in Jakarta. Data obtained were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The analysis showed that the average value of the concept comprehension test was 55.07, which was below the Minimum Criteria of Completeness score of 73. The average value of male students was 57.29, and average value of female students was 52.85. There was no significant difference between the learning outcomes of male and female students. Some male students have higher achievements because they have more engagement in science than others. Students’ low ability to understand the biology concept makes them unable to perform their competency at the stages of applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. Overall, data showed that the average level of understanding of biological concepts for secondary school of bilingual programs still tends to be low and needs to be continuously improved in the learning process. Further studies, hopefully, can be conducted to develop the most appropriate learning method to improve biological concepts.
Soybean is very widely used in Indonesia, especially as a raw material for processed foods such as tofu and tempeh. This study aims to analyze the phytochemical content and proximate of variety irradiation soybean seeds Gamasugen 1 and Gamasugen 2. Phytochemical and proximate analysis of the seeds of soybean were carried out with quantitative and qualitative analysis. The proximate study analyzed included water content (oven method), ash content (furnace method), fat content (Soxhlet method), and crude fiber content (acid alkali digestion method). The results of phytochemical testing show that both soybeans (Gamasugen 1 and Gamasugen 2) contain flavonoid as quercetin, alkaloid, saponins, phenolic, triterpenoid, and glycoside. The proximate analysis results showed that Gamasugen 1 soybeans had a moisture content of 8.22%, lower than Gamasugen 2, which was 11.67%. Gamasugen 1 soybean content is 4.61%, lower than Gamasugen 2, which is 4.86%. Gamasugen 1 soybeans have a fat content of 14.50%, more economical than Gamasugen 2, which is 15.51%. Gamasugen 1 soybeans have a fiber content of 14.56%, higher than Gamasugen 2 soybeans, which is 9.96%. The conclusion shows the most top proximate analysis of soybean is found in fat content (Gamasugen 2) which is 15.51% and the lowest level is found in ash content (Gamasugen 1) which is 4.61%.
Indonesia mempunyai berbagai jenis bahan pakan dengan kualitas berbeda yang bisa dimanfaatkan sebagai pakan ruminansia. Salah satu cara untuk mengevaluasinya adalah dengan melihat penampilan produksi gas bahan pakan tersebut secara in-vitro. Bahan pakan yang diujikan pada penelitian ini adalah tepung kulit kopi, kulit kacang tanah, rumput lapang, daun turi, jerami padi dan jerami padi fermentasi. Sampel ditimbang 200±5 mg, dimasukkan ke dalam syringe glass 100 ml, ditambahkan media cairan rumen kerbau yang sudah dicampurkan larutan bicarbonat buffer sebanyak 30 ml, selanjutnya diinkubasi di dalam waterbath pada 39 o C selama 48 jam. This study aimed to develop guided discovery learning-based android learning media to improve critical thinking skills. The developed biology learning media was applied to the nervous system material. The discussion of the physiology of the nervous system is one of the difficult biological materials to understand because it includes the organization and structure of neurons and their functions, ion pump mechanisms when neurons are at rest, action potential mechanisms, mechanisms for neurons to communicate with other cells in the synapses, and organization of the nervous system. This study used research and development (RD) with a method developed by Thiagarajan, namely the 4D model with stages: define, design, develop and disseminate. The stages of this study are limited to the development stage. The results showed that the media was feasible with media, language, and a material expert validation of 3.5, 3.8, and 3.3, respectively.
