Technical and vocational education is no longer a "second class" option in the eye of the community because of its significant role in producing human capital for industries. Hence, consistent efforts have been done by Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to enhance the students' skills and capability. Recently, a lot of graduates are unable to secure a job after graduating because of a failure to meet the employer's expectation. The reasons are because employers normally have their preference criteria in recruitment, such as having a good employability skills. Therefore, this concept paper has been developed in order to study the importance of generic skills in improving the employability of Malaysian vocational students. The "CareerEDGE" model have been used to further discuss the relevant generic skills needed by TVET students in Malaysia. In addition, the elements of generic skills that are important to vocational students will be identified then it will be presented to the stakeholder, which are The Malaysia Ministry of Education in formulating effective vocational education and training strategies towards the development of high skilled and competitive graduates. In this study, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, communication skills and leadership skills have been discovered as the main components of generic skills to be addressed to vocational school students. As a conclusion, generic skills should be applied thoroughly by all parties because it will benefit the student by improving their skills and self-esteem in order to compete in the career world.
Graduates' employability plays a significant role in justifying the effectiveness of the technical and vocational education system (TVE). This issue has been debated among scholars for a long time and this concept has gained significant attention from organizational administrators as well as academicians. This study aims to understand more deeply about the dimensions of graduates' employability skills and it impact on graduates as workers and organizations. In-depth study has been carried out by analysing previous literature related to TVE, graduates' employability skills and training and development. This study incorporates a number of skills dimensions that are able to develop robust employability skills among graduates such as skill applications, self-efficacy, metacognition, entrepreneurial skills and soft skills. In this regard, it is a priority for the TVE system to equip graduates with the ability to apply skills, enhance self-efficacy skills, metacognition, entrepreneurial skills and soft skills so that graduates have the skills required by the organization to enhance graduates' employability. This study also summarizes the dimensions of employability skills from the perspective of the organization and TVE through the development of a model of graduates' employability. This model can be used by organizations and TVEs to identify and define key skills in graduates' employability skills.
The main objective of this study is to examine the relationship between performance based pay management (i.e., communication and participation) and procedural justice. A survey methods were used to collect selfreport survey of employees in currier service company. The SmartPLS path model analysis revealed two main findings: first, communication was significantly correlated with procedural justice. Second, participation was significantly correlated with procedural justice. These findings demonstrate that the ability of managers to properly implement performance based pay management may invoke feelings of procedural justice among employees in the organization. This study provides three important implications: first, this study may serve great potential for understanding the effect of communication and, participation in strengthening perception of procedural justice among employees in the organization. Second, the survey questionnaire used in this study had satisfactorily met the standards of validity and reliability analyses. This may lead to produced accurate and reliable research findings. Third, this study may serve as a guide for practitioners to enhance the effectiveness of organization's performance based pay management as an important instrument to motivate employee in supporting organization's pay system, objectives and strategies. In addition, discussion, implications and conclusion are described.
Public expenditure for technical and vocational education is important for Malaysia to produce high skilled workers to achieve the status of a developed and high-income country by the year 2020. The objective of this study is to measure the relationship between public expenditure for technical and vocational education and employability skills of the graduates of vocational colleges in Malaysia. The SmartPLS path model analysis revealed two important findings: first, recurrent expenditure was significantly correlated with employability skills. Second, development expenditure was significantly correlated with employability skills. These outcomes demonstrate that the ability of technical and vocational education administrator to provide and manage adequate financial allocation may lead to enhance graduate's employability skills. In addition, discussion, implications and conclusion are described.
Tujuan kajian ini dijalankan adalah untuk menilai peranan keadilan interaksi sebagai pemboleh ubah pengantara dalam perhubungan di antara komunikasi tentang ganjaran berasaskan prestasi dan komitmen organisasi. Kaedah kaji selidik telah digunakan untuk mengumpul data daripada 310 pekerja di organisasi perkhidmatan pos dan kurir terbesar di Semenanjung Malaysia. Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) telah digunakan dalam menganalisis data. Keputusan kajian menunjukkan dua dapatan penting: pertama, perhubungan di antara komunikasi terbuka, keadilan interaksi dan komitmen organisasi adalah signifikan. Kedua, perhubungan di antara komunikasi berahsia, keadilan interaksi dan komitmen organisasi adalah signifikan. Dapatan kajian ini telah mengesahkan bahawa kesan komunikasi tentang ganjaran berasaskan prestasi ke atas komitmen organisasi adalah dipengaruhi secara tidak langsung oleh keadilan interaksi. Dapatan kajian ini juga dapat memberi gambaran yang lebih jelas kepada para pengurus bahawa komunikasi tentang pengurusan ganjaran berasaskan prestasi adalah strategi yang sangat penting perlu digunakan untuk meningkatkan komitmen pekerja terhadap organisasi. Seterusnya, kajian ini menghuraikan perbincangan, implikasi dan kesimpulan. Kata kunci: komunikasi terbuka, komunikasi berahsia, ganjaran berasaskan prestasi; keadilan interaksi; komitmen organisasi.
