Gempa yang melanda Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) dan sekitarnya pada bulan Mei 2006 yang lalu berakibat pada tumbuhnya Pasar Merdeka, salah satu wadah kegiatan ekonomi rakyat di Kabupaten Gunungkidul, DIY, sebagai alternatif wadah kegiatan ekonomi masyarakat Gunungkidul, menggantikan sementara Pasar Wonosari yang mengalami kerusakan. Tumbuh, berubah, dan berkembangnya ruang ekonomi rakyat ini menarik untuk dikaji lebih lanjut untuk mengetahui hal-hal apakah yang mendasari pemanfaatan ruang ekonomi rakyat tersebut. Studi ini dilakukan dengan metoda fenomenologi yang menekankan pada realitas keseluruhan untuk mengungkapkan makna transenden dibalik realitas yang tertangkap secara visual. Studi ini menemukan ‘prinsip rukun’ - pandangan dan tata nilai lokal masyarakat Wonosari dalam merespon ruang ekonomi di Pasar Merdeka yang didasarkan pada budaya Jawa. Prinsip rukun ini menjadi dasar konsep sosio kultural, sosio ekonomi, dan sosio politis dalam tata kehidupan masyarakat yang diimplementasikan secara fisik dalam sosio spatial. Temuan ini menggambarkan pengertian ruang sebagai space yang erat kaitannya dengan realitas fisik dan ruang sebagai place yang erat kaitannya dengan realitas psikologis, yang terbukti mampu membimbing masyarakat untuk cepat bangkit pasca bencana Gempa DIY, Mei 2006.

This paper presents geotourism development as a development framework of Gunungkidul Regency, Indonesia. This concept has been formulated in the consideration of policy direction of local and national tourism development, requirement of Geopark Global Network concept, consideration of environment, social and cultural environment and the demand of trend of the tourism interest improvement among society. This research was conducted with the urgency of: (1) the importance of geodiversity and geoheritage preservation as the unrenewable resources; (2) the important values of geodiversity and geoheritage that have a valuable knowledge for the people and their environment; (3) the importance of biodiversity as the environment wealth that plays an absolute role towards the balance of the environment; (4) The significant role of the wealth of socio-culture of people (cultural diversities) as a local wisdom that has a great power in the development process and (5) the urgency of the improvement of independency of tourism entrepreneurship as the accurate strategy in the development program for people prosperity. The direction of the geotourism development has been formulated through the synthesis of various analyses covering the analysis on government policy, analysis on the potential of tourism attraction, and SWOT analysis. The dialogue of any analyses is required to guarantee the production of formulation in the accurate and synergic direction of geotourism with any various existing development directions. The direction of the empowerment of the living environment and natural resources shows the awareness of how very fundamental the balance, harmony and aptitude of ecology, society, economic and culture is.

This study found the concept of "market as seduluran (brotherhood) ABSTRAKStudi ini menemukan konsep "pasar sebagai ruang seduluran", budaya masyarakat Jawa dalam mengelola interaksi sosial kemasyarakatan. Konsep pengelolaan interaksi ini merupakan realisasi budaya masyarakat Jawa yang telah ada dan terus berkembang hingga saat ini. Eksplorasi yang mendalam mengungkapkan tema-tema empiris yang menunjukkan strategi pengelolaan pasar. Strategi ini menggambarkan persepsi masyarakat terhadap pasar, yaitu sebagai ruang umum, ruang dhasaran, ruang kekeluargaan, media perluasan sosial, ruang sosioekonomi, ruang paseduluran, ruang perbincangan dan ruang hiburan, perubahan pengelolan ruang pasar, keterbukaan ruang pasar, dan jaringan informasi, pengetahuan, dan budaya. Temuan lain adalah peran pasar, yaitu sebagai pengontrol fisik, wadah fungsi komersial, lingkungan sosial, dan realisasi budaya. Tema-tema empiris yang ditemukan kemudian dieksplorasi dengan kedalaman eidetik dan berhasil menemukan konsep seduluran yang merupakan pemahaman masyarakat terhadap pasar. Konsep ini merupakan dasar pemikiran dalam mengembangkan strategi untuk menjaga harmoni sosial dalam bermasyarakat. Konsep ini berhasil menjaga eksistensi pasar sebagai ruang ekonomi tradisional di tengah dinamika modernisasi kegiatan ekonomi dewasa ini.Kata Kunci: bakulan, budaya, pengelolaan ruang, persepsi ruang, seduluran

This study was conducted with the paradigm of phenomenology and  found that pekenan as a mobilization system of economic in  the Javanese community in the district of Bantul, dominated by social values that develop a market as a socioeconomic space. Market as an economic activity container has a major role as a social networking nodes and important node in order to disseminate of culture in the district of Bantul. This study also found that the cultural values underlying the economic activity in the market is togetherness, partnership, civility, and harmony, they are local wisdoms of the people which are able to maintain the sustainability of the  system of pekenan  - mobilization system of the economic activity in the district of Bantul.</span></span>
