The study aimed to determine the effect of the addition of carbon black (CB) and Palm Empty Bunch Powder (OPBEP) as a filler in natural rubber compounds on thermal and transmittance properties. The composting method is done at the Open mill. The process of mixing natural rubber with additives, curative agents, activators, accelerator materials and nano OPBEP and CB with variations (0;2; 4; 6; 8)% wt. The results of the study were obtained. FTIR results from coumpound with CB and OPBEP fillers as a whole showed almost the same results. This is due to modifications so there is a possibility of overlapping with uptake on other bands. There is a peak of 2912 C – H asymmetric symmetric stretching vibrations of octadecylamine, respectively. Bending vibration of C – H in the = CH group of 3,4- or 1,2-units. The thermal properties of the DSC thermogram obtained an increase in the melting point and cross-linking with an increase in the content of the OPBA element compared with no filler as well as the CB / filler. In general, a compound with OPBEP filler and CB can be used as a technical product that has more mechanical properties.
This study aims to determine the characteristics of oil palm boiler ash (OPBA) after processing with ball mill and coprecipitation methods. The method used is OPBA from a palm oil mill, processed using a ball mill for 1 hour at a speed of 250 rpm. Then prepared with the coprecipitation method by dissolving it in 2M HCl solution and NaOH solution with variations (2; 2.5; 3) M. Particles were characterized by XRD, SEM, XRF, and FTIR. XRD characterization shows the size of each crystal (83,79; 72,30 and 56,31) nm, with trigonal crystal structure with the SiO2 phase. SEM shows a homogeneous mixture. EDX shows the biggest elements are Si, O and C content. XRF shows the amount of silica is 31.45%. FTIR shows absorption peaks which are the characters of molecular vibrations of the sample.
Abstract. Purpose of this study was to determine the mechanical properties and morphology of composite natural rubber and natural bentonite with addition of Na-bentonite filler and carbon black to natural rubber. The method is carried material mixed with filler composition variations (0,10,20,30) phr using open mill for 6 min. Results of the open mill is vulcanized at a temperature of 170 o C. Further testing mechanical properties and morphology. Results showed that the addition of Na-bentonite filler and carbon black influence on the mechanical properties of tensile strength, elongation at break, modulus of elasticity, hardness, and strong tear. Morphological results showed cavities in the rubber compound and the occurrence agglomeration.
