Investigation of task-technology fit and intention to use social media tools needs to focus specifically on higher education for teaching and learning, and its impact on students' academic performance. This article aims to develop a model that would identify essential aspects that are predicted to continue to play a large role in TTF for learning in BI, which could be used to improve academic performance in higher education. The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics and aspects of SM and the relationship between their use in the TTF and UTAUT theory to determine how they affect research students' satisfaction and AP in HE institutions. Data for the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) and task-technology fit (TTF) theories were collected using a questionnaire survey. This research hypothesizes that behavioral intention to utilize social media and task-technology fit for learning will influence social characteristics, technology characteristics, performance expectancy, and effort expectancy, all of which will improve academic performance. As a test bed for this research, a structural equation model (SEM) was constructed examining the relationships between factors that affect students' academic performance. A stratified random sample strategy was used to disseminate the main tool of data collection, a questionnaire, to 383 students. A quantitative method was used to examine the results. The obtained outcomes showed that there was a correlation among social characteristics, technological characteristics, behavioral intention to use social media, and task-technology fit for academic performance, which aided student performance and results. The study indicates that PEX and EEX also demonstrated a strong relation to task-technology fit and behavioral intent to use social media for academic purposes, both of which positively impacted academic performance. As a result, the study found that behavioral intention to utilize and task-technology-fit social media promote students' active learning and enable them to discuss and exchange knowledge and information more efficiently. In conclusion, we encourage students to use social media for educational purposes in their studies and teaching through lectures in HE institutions.
Technology has been recognized as one of strategic resources for sustaining competitiveness among firms regardless of their sizes. Challenges in globalizations and strategic alliances are some of the issues underpinning technology adoption among SMEs. However, existing models on technology adoption have not provided sufficient insights on factors that could influence the successful adoption of technology among SMEs in Malaysia. In particular, uniqueness of SMEs characteristics, especially in terms of pervasive influence of SMEs' owner-managers, has not been considered. Therefore, this study aims to identify significant factors that could have pervasive influence on technology adoption among SMEs in Malaysia by integrating internal and external factors together with the SME unique characteristics. A preliminary study was conducted to propose the SME technology adoption model to validate the influence of external factors, internal factors and SMEs' owner-manager characteristics. This study employed multiple case study strategy as its research design and interviews as primary data collection method. Collected data were analyzed using thematic analyses to identify recurring factors across cases. The findings showed that notwithstanding of the technologies adopted by the firms, internal factors and SME's ownermanagers characteristics have significant influence on technology adoption among SMEs.
-Small firms have been recognized as the pillar of industrial development in Malaysia. However, recent report indicates that majority of small companies are noninnovating companies. One of causes cited is the lack of welltrained workers. Furthermore, there are limited studies that focus on the role of training on employee innovativeness especially among small firms. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between perception on training and employee innovativeness among employees of small firms. A total of 182 employees from 36 small firms participated in this survey. Descriptive analysis and regression analysis were used to describe constructs' central tendency and variability and test the hypotheses respectively. It is found that training explained 28.8% of variance in employee innovativeness. Training is proved to be one of the significant predictors of employee innovativeness and all its dimensions (opportunity exploration, idea generation, idea promotion and idea implementation). This finding accentuates the importance of training among small firms, which should go beyond on-job training. In the face of business challenges, small firms need to promote employee innovativeness through training.
